Technical Euro6 1.2 Throttle Response, Hill Start Issues & Watchdog report

Hello and welcome to the forum .

Sorry to hear you're suffering this issue too.

Freudian slip?

Let's hope you don't have the problem indefinitely.

No hopefully not indefinitely! ;) luckily we haven't suffered too much with the problem and are still very happy with the car.

Ford have had to deal with the same issue on the Ka and by all acounts, a fix was promptly found and a rollout programme put in place for affected owners. I also suspect Ford have been much more proactive in getting the fix in place before the cars were delivered.

The thing that really boggles the mind is why FIAT have gone into deny, deny and deny mode rather than quietly grabbing Ford's fix, verifying it as necessary and getting it out there ASAP.

Are Ka's typically built to order as per 500's or are they much more "off the peg"?

Glad a fix is on the way, it must be incredibly frustrating when you have a new car which is meant to be a enjoyable experience.

Hopefully the fun will return after the update. If Fiat had held their hands up and said there was a problem and a fix was on the way it would have saved a lot of stress for people. By denying it, they just upset customers, look bad and damage the brand.

Hope you all get sorted soon.

Good, because IMHO Fiat's position is indefensible.

It's not the fact that a number of cars were sold with this issue; as you say, these are complex systems and sometimes it's impossible to fully debug them before mass production, however hard you try.

What's indefensible is the way they've chosen to deal with their customers who've been affected (n).

I Have a 64 plate Ford KA and have around 800 miles on it. It drives like a dream, and zooms up hills better than my previous 2 for KA's, but I seem to be struggling with hill starts on some hills, where the car either bogs down, or then over revs and zooms off.

I have contacted Ford about this, and they say there is no upate for my car, but I worry after reading these posts that Ford may not have totally eradicated this issue.....

Anyone with a Ford KA 64 Plate - is there a knack to hill starts...???

That's exactly what our 500 does. I let it bog down rather than over rev as it's less jerky.

But will it still pull away when it bogs down, as it feels like it will stall
Yes it just judders like pulling off in 2nd. It's quite hard to stall I think because of the auto revving (not sure if the ka has that?). But if I try and pull off with just over 1.5k revs it will suddenly go up to 3k before fully coming off the clutch which makes it jerk forwards.

I think the KA does have an anti stall mechanism, but I cannot be certain.

Yes, it lifts the revs to around 1000rpm when lifting clutch and in gear. I can also pull Away on the flat by just lifting clutch, but haven't tried this on a hill yet.

I'm not sure whether it's the auto revving that makes it tricky to pull away smoothly or the whole lack of power problem.

I am trying different methods to see if I can master the pull off on a hill, to see if it can be done quickly and smoothly, I will keep updating as I have results.

It'll be the latter as auto revving will only happen if the revs are not high enough in the first place from the experience with the 2013 1.2 I used for 7 weeks last year.

Good point. Maybe try your ford ka on a really steep hill and see what it's like, because I didnt think our 500 had a problem with hills until I tried a really steep one.

Comparing a 1 litre turbo to a 1.2 is frankly ludicrous. Turbocharge the 500 and see what you get. Better still go and see how turbos work before using the its only a 1 litre motor thing to pan the 500. And then theres the cost.... Comparing eggs with eggs would help your case.
