your car is an 08 and you will need an adaptor for it to be able to play music from your iphone. Far cheaper to just buy a flash drive and play music from that.

Best thing about connecting the iPhone to the car is not so much the music as you say it can be played with a usb stick, its the fact that it can be charged.
My iPhone 4s does not last one day of use without dying so if you go for long drives you are in effect charging the phone!

That's why even with these new fancy Bluetooth iPhone connections in the phone to listen to music, I prefer using the cable.. Unless the engineers figure away to charge the iPhone via Bluetooth of course!

ive found that if you have an 11 plate onwards with the usb and aux port together, the iphone will charge and play music with steering wheel controls

It may struggle with an iPad as this really needs 10W (2A at 5V) but the phones only need 5W (1A at 5V) this is the standard USB rating.

If your iPhone doesn't charge then there is something else wrong.

iPads should still charge, just very slowly.

Good points except standard rating of USB is actually 500mA, and I’m pretty sure that’s all I get in my car.

Yes you are correct but the iPhone should charge fine from 500mA. It will be slower, but should charge.

I checked the other day, In my car none of our iPhones will charge unless I have the fiat iPhone adapter plugged in, as it appears the blue and me computer has to recognise the device before it will supply it with power.

I checked 3 generations of iPhone 3GS, 4 and 5. All charge fine provided the blue and me adapter is there.

If it is the older Microsoft blue and me unit you need the blue and me adapter or it won't do anything. If it is the newer laberhorn unit it should just work.

Also using 3rd party cables can cause an issue, but to be honest I have never found one that hasn't worked.

Laberhorn unit?

Laberhorn unit?

Magneti Marelli = Blue&Me generation 1 (iThings require adapter, latest software is 5.6)

Lauberhorn = Blue&Me generation 2, since mid 2010, starting with VIN 504557 (current software is 7.0)

Ah fair enough, had never seen it before :)

USB update!

Hi there,
I’m brand new to this forum, but need help!
My Fiat 500 is March 2011.

My USB until a week ago Blue&me worked absolutely fine. I usually listen to Spotify on my iphone.
Then for no apparent reason- Blue&me reported No USB found.
I followed the instructions on their website. Put in a brand new USB stick, formatted it to FAT32 downloaded the file and extracted the contents of the zip file to the empty USB stick. I disabled blue tooth and turned the car on to MAR.
Nothing- No display. It did not show it was updating. I’ve tried a few times but nothing happens.

I noticed that it was telling me “low memory” so with the advice of another helpful person from this forum I inserted a blank USB to rid of previous data from the last owner. This also did not work.

This is extremely frustrating as I can no longer play any of my music.

Any helpful suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance.
