I have just had winter Continentals fitted to the 500 TwinAir in the last hour.

Question- do you set them to the same pressures as the regular ones?

In my service book it states:

"with snow tyres add 0.2 bar to the inflation pressure value prescribed for standard tyres"

As its translation from Italian your guess is as good as mine wether they mean real 'snow tyres" (ie. studded tyres) or normal winters...

Interesting.

I'd seen some articles suggesting that winter tyres should be inflated at a higher pressure but wasn't sure whether to do so.

Haven't changed mine over yet. Will probably change then after Christmas as it's looking like the weather might change around then or closer to new years, or it might not and I'll never get my winters on this year.

Having at last got around to getting some winters, late last season, as soon as I fitted them the weather got milder. Again this season, since fitting them, we've had one frosty night, and the rest quite warm. Is there magic involved?

The weather is what it is. I have a bit of an interest in weather myself and it's looking like the weather could cool down a touch after Christmas :) Personally I'm not going to put mine on till there are decent signs of snow or cold :)

No just being too trigger happy with fitting winters as you have spent all that money on them when in reality you probably only really need them 10 days or so a year (especially in the south )

yes I like to follow it too and some of the main european models are showing some potentially very cold weather for around the 27th, all this can change of course but worth keeping an eye on
