I took my 500 for a long drive earlier and absolutely loved it, however I wondered if anymore power could be coaxed out of the little engine. Has anyone had their twin air remapped? What are the performance gains and where did you get it done? :)

From my research the best place in the UK to get a remap on the TA is Celtic Tuning.
They have a rolling road developed 100bhp map and it can be installed via a mobile tech service or you can visit their dealer who has the rolling road - South West in Car Tech. Bristol. Price is £295
They will perform a before and after RR run and give you a copy of the printout.
I'm going to get mine done there soon.

Sounds good to me, you'll have to let me know how it goes. I think 100hp would be great, enough poke to keep up with the warm hatches. Bristol is a fair drive for me but I have a holiday booked soon and a friend who lives in Bristol who could spare me a room for the night should I need it :p

I wonder what the insurance would be like on a modified car for a 19 year old, just saying :)

At 19 you'd be far better off learning how to drive properly than giving yourself more power :)

My insurance for 10k miles and use for work came in at £220.
Including the modifications, remap, suspension, exhaust and 20k miles the quote was £390.
The mileage made the biggest difference. I do have 9 yrs NCD and am 47 tho ; )

and some insurers won't even so much as look at a 19 year old wanting to modify their car. At 19 I probably didn't have a quarter of the skill I thought I had :)

I often wonder about being accurate with your mileage when taking out insurance. Seems only KwikFit ask for you exact mileage when taking insurance. My daughter has had more than her fair share of bumps and insurance company never does any sort of check on mileage covered since insurance purchased. Probably easy to check with a new car on first year of insurance. However, if you have an older vehicle, how the heck can they check?
I must confess that I always underestimate.

Yes the mileage per annum is rubbish. What is the insurance company going to do in court? The driver would be like sorry had to do some driving to see my new girlfriend OOP NORTH, did I have to tell my insurance company this? ; ))

Welcome to 21st century Britain!

Maxi how on earth can an insurer tell if a car has been remapped or not?

It's unlikely they could tell, but honesty is always the best policy with insurance. If they find out you've remapped then you could have no insurance :)

I wouldn't worry about my driving skill, I go on long drives a lot and test the car to the limit. I've been driving for over 2 years and I've never crashed once. I'm not being funny or anything but I know how to handle the cars I drive :p

As for insurance, I'm currently paying £557 a year and LV said that the remap wouldn't increase the cost. I know there are still some insurers who won't change the cost of your car insurance if it's a minor remap :/

And by testing to the limit I don't mean driving like a fool, I find the optimum time to change gear and safe cornering speeds :)

:/

Sorry to be blunt. But you probably really do no absolutely very little about how to handle a car. Experience is absolutely everything. Come back in ten years and tell us that you know how to 'handle the cars' you drive.

The way I wrote my post may have made me sound like a boy racer but I assure you that I know what I'm doing. You may have many years behind you but does that mean you won't get into a serious collisions? No, it just means you've been doing the same thing for many more years than I have. I'm not saying I know more than you, I'm merely saying that I don't get into my car in the morning and crash a few times before getting there :D
