Hi all
I have recently purchased a fiat 500 1.2 pop from a local dealer. All was well until I have recently noticed that the mileage starts flashing mid drive or when I turn it on but it doesn't happen all the time. I turn it off and back on again and it stops. Does anyone know what this means? Is it something to worry about? Thanks

How old is the 500 ? See if the hands free (blue&me works )using menu button on steering wheel it more than likely wont as quite often mileage flashing means the convergance control unit isn't on the CAN network.
The later cars can sometimes just disconnect battery with quick release earth lead for 2 mins ,or sometimes a restart is required or (body computer update older cars)(dealer is needed for this )
See where you are blue and me software also from blue&me.net
Hope this helps.(y)

It's an 08 so it doesn't have blue&me. Shall I get it checked out or will it be ok just restarting it every time? Thanks

I too have had this problem with my 2008 which has Blue&Me. The Bluetooth side of it works fine with my Blackberry phone but refuses to synch with the B&M Map Fiat Sat Nav I have. But as mine is not a newer car, I assume the battery disconnect will not help me so I assume the dealer will be needed which is unfortunate because when I took it in to report this, they spent half and hour scratching their heads and then suggested I book the car in for them to 'have a look at it to see what they could find' Not very reassuring! Maybe I'll live with the Satnav commands coming out of it's own small speaker and do without it synching with the stereo!

Your dealer should know this........

Cheers Matt, I'll try them again with these suggestions or failing that, another Fiat dealer who looks a bit more interested!
Thanks

Okay I'll try that. Thank you :)

Our '08 1.2 Lounge used to do this - it started doing it after about 6 weeks and would randomly do it throughout its life.

Noone ever managed to fix it, despite numerous software updates etc.

The apparent cause (I was told) was to do with two clocks getting out of sync on CAN network (I don't know what that means).

It isn't a big problem as such, and shouldn't affect the car, it's just a little irritating when it happens.

I have a Grande Punto, Different car but same problem.
My mileage started flashing so i decided to try something i read on here and it hasnt done it since.

When you put the key in the ignition, switch it to the first position (where the dash lights come on) wait for the lights to go out (some stay on battery etc.) And then start the car, that way the canbus system has had time to register everything before starting.

I do this and its never flashed since, it may not work for you but worth a try.

Needs a proxi alignment, get this done at the dealership and all should be good again (y)

Have just got the same problem on my Bravo. Would this class as one of the "free" firmware checks/updates Fiat talk about? I only ask this as I got a letter from Desira in Norwich saying that I can use them for a free update if required.

I changed headlight bulb successfully as had blown
Then milage started blinking and Blue and Me stopped after.
Went a week with this this then looked for resolution. I found this

1> Car is Off
2> Turn Key Accessory Mode but dont start the Car
3> Put the Hazard Lights on and then turn them off
4> Turn Key to Off Position
5> Take Key Out
6> Put Key Back in and ODO Mileage will stop flashing.

This didn’t work for me and thought it was a bit of a joke.
Last resort would be to remove negative from battery for 10 mins
This morning tried this and worked

1> Car is Off (No key in ignition)
2> Put the Hazard Lights on (not sure if I turned them off before next step)
3> Turn Key to start
4> ODO stopped Flashing and Blue and Me works

Think I did it in this order but maybe try other.
Why does hazards reset everything?

Hope this helps and saves on taking to dealer for expensive diagnosis.
