I am contemplating putting the window wind deflectors on my 500. It's a dark colour so they won't stand out like a sore thumb but I was wondering if they are worthwhile putting on. Could anyone who has them tell me if they do as advertised and keep the weather out while letting the air in. Do you use them or are they just a 'fad'.

Isn't that the job of the fan, pollen filter + A/C? I've always though wind deflectors are a relic from days past, when car ventilation systems were much less effective than today and A/C was found only on a tiny minority of super high end cars.

I can remember them being very popular in the '60's, and maybe it fits somehow with the car's retro image. Can't say the idea floats my boat, though.

I agree, but I do like fresh air in the car (which is one of the reasons for getting the 'C' version) and was hoping that I could have the window cracked open a bit in the rain without getting soaked with these fitted.
I'm not a smoker so don't need to vent the smoke away but fresh air in the cabin is quite nice.

Amusing that you remarked how you didn't like the wind deflectors in that post Robin referred to, but now you're asking about them!

I know, strange but true, as a concept I don't like them but I miss not having a sunroof in the 500c ( I know I have a big one) which would allow 'fresh' air in when it was raining. As manufacturers have done away with gutters a deflector is almost a must if it's raining and you don't want to be drenched by the wipers when the window is cracked open.So just exploring other methods. I have also seen them on some 500's and they are not as hideous as I remembered from the '70s.

I may have to overcome my prejudices in favour of comfort

been giving these some serious thought even rang fiat today for a price.still not sure about them and today in the works carpark a lad got out of a beat up green s reg micra with them on(not a good luck:eek:) and that put some doubt in my mind

I think the deflectors will be fine as the shape suits the 500 lines in particular (rounded / bumpy), only avoid them if they do not suit the colour / style of your car.

I think, as the deflectors are dark gray then on a dark coloured car it will look OK as you won't 'see' it. Although some light colours like white work with the gray too.

i agree and my car is tech house grey with tinted rear windows so i think they would look good.btw fiat quoted me £38 and i would have them in a couple of days.also i know there are other makes available does anyone know what are better or darker?

I love driving with windows down in summer (er, what summer? Lol. I know).
Started to consider WD's lol. You might have started a craze ; )

In the same way that the bubonic plague was a craze, I suppose....

The bubonic plague wasn't really a craze, well certainly not self inflicted, unlike the wind deflctor which we could possibly avoid.

I must say that if I fitted them they would be for purely practical reasons, as I still think they detract from the car, but I still haven't heard from anyone that has them, to tell me if they work as advertised. Maybe this is an answer in itself as no one will admit to having them on the car. What ever happened to opening quarter lights?

I'll just tell everyone that @RobinPJ made me do it :p :ROFLMAO:

Dude just go for it and try them out, Robin, I am sure has higher literary plans for your comment (y)

I fitted wind deflectors a few weeks ago. Don't care much about the looks either way, but they seem to work, ie I can crack the window open when it's raining so the windows don't fog up, and air circulation seems impoved in that there's less draft around the neck. But then I'm not a big fan of the AC, or rather the noise of it when it's cranked up (I hardly ever use the heater, too).

I bought the deflectors from ClimAir, they offer them in clear, medium, and dark tint, and they are TÜV-approved unlike some cheap brands.

Been looking out for cars with deflectors fitted and seen none except hackney cabs which all seem to have them so they must do a good job.when I got to work there was a group of old vw's 4 in total and they were all.sporting bonnet bras ,built not bought stickers and wind deflectors and I thought they looked pretty good:thumbup: still not made my mind up.though:)
