Roughly whats the servicing costs for a Fiat 500, both the 1.2 and the TA, how often do they need servicing, assume the car is brand new :) I'm trying to work out the approximate whole life cost over a 3 year period compared to my Cupra.

Thanks
Steve

As far as the TA is concerned if your doing more than 6000 miles a year then it will require servicing every two years or 18000 miles. I was told the first service would be around £200

Your question is far too vague. Are you servicing it yourself? Or at a main dealer?

Depends.

Best way is to call your local dealer and see what they say.

I wouldn't take your car to a dealership unless you're sure they have a good reputation for customer service, and a decent reputation for a) not ripping you off and b) actually doing mechanical work properly.

I've got a response from rockingham fiat but cannot view the prices on the phone, it took around 15 minutes from request, which is a good start. I also know someone who has had warranty work carried out that the other local dealer refused to do

£218 for an 18k service, that does include a fuel treatment which i would not bother with at £10.

£208 is a good price if that is for the TA, or you can source the parts yourself - the plugs are expensive.

btw: have you ordered the car or just checking servicing etc, sorry missed a few posts.

They may be expensive arorat but they are only 2 plugs compared to 4 on the 1.2/1.4!

as I recall they were more expansive than buying 4 plugs... anyway not a big deal.

£208 is a great price if for a TA at 18,000m especially if all filters etc are replaced and it would be a bargain if the break fluid is also changed in that price.

Plugs for the TA are more expensive because they're platinum tipped, standard 1.2 ones are not.

They should easily last for 18k miles - with good fuel and not too harsh treatment, they should be fine for 24k +.

That includes plugs, Selena K Energy oil and a pollen filter.

Not ordered one ... still undecided, but running cost's....

3 years and 12,000 per year (36k) Fuel, Servicing, Insurance, MOT inc

Seat Leon 2.0TFsi
£13277 (includes clutch and 4 tyres that the seat will need £1600)

Fiat 500 0.9 TA
£4709

That doesn't include depreciation but the 500 would lose more since it would be new compared to the 6 year old Leon. Yes you could buy used but then MOT's tyres etc would need to come into it. A new 500 on finance can pretty much be had with very little interest charges and a nice 500 used is 9k, if you look hard enough you can find a new one for under 10k (11k if TA)

If you buy outright then yes, on pcp there isn't as much in it, but I won't rule the 1.2 out.

1.2 all the way :)

I've done 50k in mine and my costs are as below

just under 5.8k in fuel
about 1400 in insurance
Sod all in road tax
120 for my first service, 270 for the 2nd (a bit of a rip tbh), 140 for the 3rd and about 60 quid for the 4th one
1 MOT @ 30 quid
a set of 4 tyres at something like £160

I really do think that a TA would struggle to meet that unless in the hands of the most determined of eco drivers :)

I've just done my calculations and based on that it would have cost me 5800 for 36k miles, if you think you're going to own a TA for 36k miles for 4,700 pounds then you really are in for a rude awakening!

If you match the mpg of my car (unlikely) you'll have about 600 quid to spend on insurance, servicing and everything else over 3 years, that isn't happening.

1.2 will be the cheapest because it's the most conventional and easiest for most people to get good economy out of box.

The TA is the most fun (I'd argue), and gives *reasonable* economy when you want.

I agree, if I were buying now it'd be a twinair for sure. It's undeniably the more fun engine, but if we take emotion out of it and talk about running costs, the 1.2 will beat the twinair every time and teabag it for good luck :)

I would love to know how Steve arrived at his figures,

I think working things out very roughly, the fuel for my car over 36k miles works out at just under 4,200 pounds. As we all know, it's less likely that a TA will be more economical than a 1.2 so you're probably going to spend closer to 5k just on fuel, that's before we get talking about insurance, servicing and other running costs.

Assume £150 per year for insurance, tax is either £30 or £0, mpg was based on £1.36 per litre and assuming 55mpg - that might be a bit high, but I averaged 59 mpg out of a vw up on my usual trip to work and just under 70mpg driving like a saint, yes they were from the mfd but from experience I've found them to be reasonably accurate, certainly within 5%. Throw in 1 service at £210, the figures are at work so cannot double check. I assume no mot and only 1 service.(y)

Assuming 55 is a major mistake, it aint gonna happen, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
