Please help!! Only had my Fiat 500 1.2 Pop for just over a week and today the brake pedal is making a clunking noise when pressed and released. It sounds like there is a noise coming from the passenger side footwell which is strange! Any one else had this or know what it might be? Thank you in advance from a very annoyed 500 owner

Could be any one of a few things, but most likely is a loose-fitting brake pad. If you know nothing about mechanics then you should get it into a garage ASAP. Most things to do with brakes and steering are not too expensive (comparitively) especially considering their importance!

If you bought it from a garage then they have an obligation to sell you a vehicle of 'merchantable quality', in other words with no faults that would make the vehicle unserviceable, so first step is to let them know you have a problem. Even if you bought it privately similar rules apply but are more difficult to enforce.

If its brand new my first port of call would not be this forum but the dealership you bought it from. Take it back and tell them, they will have a look and fix it for you (hopefully ;) )

My 500C had a rubber seal come adrift 4 weeks after delivery (01-02-13) and the dealer took it in and fixed it with no fuss or bother.

Not all dealers are shysters, some actually do want to do a good job.

Contacted the dealer and have to call in the morning to arrange taking it in to be looked at. Thanks for ur comments only had car just over week and this is the third time I have been back!

If it's coming from the passenger footwell area it is more likely that the passenger has somehow managed to dislodge the protective cover that conceals the brake mechanism with his foot. This is because on RHD cars there is a linkage that runs inside the car. If you get your head down into the passenger footwell you will see the shield and should be able to pull it away from the mechanism.

I would say its the linkage which transfers the brake pedal movement to the original left hand side. It does make an awful clunk. We discussed this when I first got my 500 way back in 2008 when dinosaurs ruled the earth. If you look at it, it looks like it was welded up by a GCSE Craft Design and Technology student. It's a feature of the car.

That shouldn't affect the linkage anyway. Are you able to take a video and post it?

I know your trying to help but if you advise him to do something on the strength of a vid and he makes it worse then he may invalidate his warrenty.

So my advice above still stands.

Its a week old get it to the dealer, thats what your warrenty is for. The worst that can happen is for them to say its normal (mine isn't clunking yet 2 months in)

It doesn't but its implied, why else would someone ask for a video except for some ghoulish desire to enjoy someone elses misfortune :p, not that this is helping the OP.
