Noticed something recently.

Doors closed on car (doesn't happen with a door open) put the key in, turn it to mar, turn it off, pull key out and listen very quietly and there's a fairly soft noise that comes from the dash. I will post a video when I get home, nothing wrong with the car, just wondered what the noise was. Thinking something to do with the immobiliser

Like a soft buzzing noise? It'll be the recirculate motor shutting to close off the heater inlet from the outside world. Climate equipped cars also wind all of the heater flap stepper motors to their full extent ready for the next key on.

If you were Ahmett I'd have said it was the car breathing a sigh of relief.

nah, it's not a mechanical noise, it's coming from an electronic unit somewhere. In fact I think I may have found the answer out, it only happens when you completely withdraw the key, so I'm fairly sure it's the immobiliser.

Immobiliser is in the body computer though, so unless you've got some weird effect occurring through the transponder coil, I can't see how you should get a noise as it's all solid state.

I get a light buzz noise, but have identified it to be the climate control stepper motors being indexed to zero. Not heard any other.

Sure it isn't the fan motor drawing to a complete stop? There's no electronic process going on at the point you draw the key out of the ignition switch - is that when the noise occurs - when you take the key out? (rather than just key-off)

haha nice one.
only thing I hear on my car when turning off the engine is a creak noise, they told me it was exhaust manifold or something like that.
maxi post a video so we can hear it!

I know exactly what you mean, it does it at other times as well if you listen carefully enough;)

yeah, one thng to,mention is that it does the noise when the interior light goes on when you take the key out.

I get the same noise, but as you have said, i think it must be the immobiliser or something relating to it.

Although not the cause of this particular noise, another interesting one to listen for is the ABS modulator self-testing - it does tend to play with itself from time to time.

From the FIAT documentation (the translation is theirs):

"After the key ON and when a speed of 6 km/h is exceeded, the control unit carries out an operation check on the solenoids and pump motor. The control unit also tests the sensors when a speed of 12 km/h is exceeded."

You can hear the pump cycling if you know what to listen for.

Not ABS pump either :)

Video here when it finishes uploading.

sound is a kind of twanging noise at 8-9 seconds :)

You'll have to turn your speakers up to 11 to hear it as well :)
