I'll bet you used 95% of the water on the rear screen too.

Trouble with rounded cars styled in a 'retro' way is that they're ****e aerodynamically, all dirt and crap coming from around the car gets drawn back onto the rear in a giant vortex..

Now I use mine daily on the motorway, I am constantly refilling the washer bottle - can't wait for the warmer/drier conditions when the dirt wont stick!

Putting a warning adds cost, pitty as would be useful, weekly fill ups for me and a large stash in he boot, thank heavens there is a second reservoir for those with xenons

HID's you mean? (private joke).

Totally agree though, the headlight washers are effective, but consume vast amounts of water. Slightly annoyingly, they come on with every pull of the wiper stalk, rather than every second or third windscreen wash as other vehicles do.

Agreed! My rear screen wiper is past its best and I can never see out of the back even with washing it it just gets dirty again!

Don't worry I've suffered a similar fait lol

Our Subaru has a dedicated button for it :p

Only because it's old. Don't forget there's a European regulation that enforces the need for HID headlamps to be automatically levelled and have washing on new cars. No doubt the washing has to be linked to the main washers as part of this too.

I know, I was just saying :)

In 2017 when we pull out of the EU we can pull the frigging fuse for the headlamp wash, so many idiotic rules.

There's nothing stopping you doing it now. It's not part of the MOT test, IIRC, and is only necessary to get type approval when selling a new car.

I have no problem with it - I'd rather keep my lights clean, which helps prevent light scatter and helps prevent dazzling other road users.

Taken from MOT regulations that came into force on 1st January 2012

Headlight requirements are updated to take account of the particular characteristics of High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps.

HID headlights can cause dazzle if they are dirty or aimed too high so car manufacturers must fit headlamp cleaning and levelling systems. A car will fail if a mandatory headlamp cleaning or levelling system is missing, doesn't work or is obviously defective.

Vehicles fitted with aftermarket HID systems must also be fitted with properly working washer and levelling systems.

So I would hold off pulling out the washers for a while yet ;)
