The bulb has two filaments (bits of wire that are coiled that glow when electric runs through them.....)

one is the 5w (DIM) which is the parking / side light

the other is the 21w (BRIGHT) which is the drl

There are only 2 ways the bulb will fit due to its shape if you look very closely at the bulb (i will try and get a photo up shortly you can see the 2 different filaments ) you can get it back in no problem if you look closely and replace it like for like

Just studied the photographs and I'm a bit lost at number 5. Am I holding the big black plastic thing that looks like the radius of a tea plate? Am I supposed to be trying to twist the whole black thing out? Hmmmmm seems quite technical. Reckon I could learn to do it if someone showed me in person but I would be afraid that I'd miss something out and then leave car unable to be driven cus bits hanging down. For you it's easy because you are probably used to changing things like that but for me, expressions like pull it don't twist or else it may shatter, scare the hell out of me lol

I'll buy some bulbs and then pluck up courage over Xmas to do. Guy who lives opposite may take pity on me and help ;)

thats just to scare the rough sods we get on the forum.... ;) dont want us getting blamed for some idiot getting bits of broken glass in their finger tips.......

best description of it is probably like the old woolworths christmas tree lights

as above this is very poor but its freezing outside and dark...

bulb looks like this you can see the 2 fillaments (i hope)

Now I'm going to sound thick.....what is a parking light? My DRL area has two bulbs in it.....one bulb is DRL and one is a light that comes on when main lights turned on. What is this other light you refer to??

(told you I'm car-thick)

It's the parking / side light to leave on when parked. It's also the dim light that comes on in the DRL lense unit when dipped beam headlamps are operational (y)

This is too hard. Will wait until
New year and pay garage to do it. Thanks for all your help but the more I think about it the more stressed I get worrying about doing wrong

Thanks for all help

The DRL and parking / side light is the same bulb which is why its called a 5/ 20w

if you go out (idelly when its warm ;) ) and start the car you will see your one working DRL look at which bulb is on.......

now turn your headlamps on you will see you now have a dim DRL look closely and you will see its the same bulb......

You are blonde though! There is no sidelight setting. whilst in motion Assuming the drl is turned on, f you have no headlight on, the drl will light up and then if you put your headlight one, the sidelight will light up.

I think from memory, you can turn the parking lights on by turning the ignition on and then turning the stalk so the headlights are off (if they were on) and then turning it again to the on position, I THINK that's how you turn the parking lights on.

That I understand but on all previous cars I've had there has been two settings on main lights....side and main (plus full beam obviously). This car just has on or off so assumed no side light.

Think being very blonde tonight. Sorry. Give up

Parking lights can be turned on after turning ignition off and turning lights on but not on full beam. I only found this out recently.

thanks both

I have worked out the follow me home lights so I'm not all thick ;)

Think perhaps had best ensure my son grows up with some car knowledge else he's gonna turn out a dim wit with cars like me

Good idea... Remove any dolls from your house and replace with meccano sets, led kits and physics sets, invest in him now.

Seriously hope DLRs are okay.

Is it out when the low beams are on or off or both?

maxi as she explained the lights only dont work in the DRL setting. When the s lights are on normally they work fine.

Heidi as mentioned by RUI just disable the DRL's and fix them when you feel like it, i personally never use my DRL's, i always drive with my dipped headlights on.

Yes that was Fiat's little trick. I found it interesting how when you turn the car off with the lights on they turn off themselves, they dont go into parking light mode and you cant have parking lights on one side, have to have them both sides by turining light on and off again when the car is shut off!
