Hi from a new user...

Currently the girlfriend has a 2009 (March) 1.4 Sport, and the rear washers appear to be inoperative - the pump can be heard whirring away but no fluid to the rear!

Would any kind soul be able to point me in the right direction to trace the pipe that feeds the rear jet...I am fairly capable with the tools just need a few pointers...

Also keen to learn more about these little road warriors and I have heard that a workshop manual is available (Elearn I think it is called), noticed a few copies on EBizle - would anyone reccomend a particular reseller or even point me in the direction of a D/L version?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Many thanks for the pointer, have felt all the carpets, as my fear was it was filling the tailgate up with fluid, but the carpets are dry, the tailgate doesn't sloosh after running the washer, and I can't see any wet patches under the car either...

I did a search and one thread indicated removal of the scuttle panel as there is a connection in the pipe work under this...

Would you have any tips on removing this panel...I understand there are 3 plastic fastners holding it down and it also involves removing the frnt wipers, any hints on this process??

Do all work on this with the bonnet open: two plastic fasteners, one each side holding the trim to the scuttle under the bonnet - pick out the middle (that looks like a flat head screw) as they're a form of plastic rivet. Then one torx fixing in the middle.

The covers for the wiper arms unclip from the passenger side of each trim, just pull it out towards yourself, and then unhook it from the other side (left as facing you). Pick off the nut cover for the wiper arm with a flat bladed screwdriver, then a 13mm AF nut (and washer) before removing the wiper arms.

Then there are two tiny little clips on each extremity of the scuttle trim as it sits agains the screen near each A post, if you use a plastic trim removing tool to lift the rubber lip, you'll see it and be able to disengage them. Then equally spaced clips along the base of the windscreen. Removal is reverse of assembly!

(Line the wiper blades up with the little dots on the blackout band at the base of the windscreen before tightening the spindle nuts)

Any updates on this?
Same thing happened on mines on Thursday evening but weather (none stop rain all Friday) and work over the weekend has stopped me from having a look until Monday.

Know its not in the car can smell it from the front area as if its coming from outside, so I guess it is under the plastic panel where the wiper arms are mounted (if that is what is meant by skuttle panel?)

I was able to have a look without taking the panel off (as time is not allowing right now) While I cannot see the connection I do see lovely puddle of blue screen wash sitting there under the panel!!
So at least I know it looks like it has come undone or burst at that point. I'll get to it but time is against me this week.

Waiting for the weather to be kinder and also for work to quiten down so I can nip home early before it gets too dark...!!

Rest assured I will get there and report back!!

I have managed to get hold of the elearn for the 500 and working my way around where all the information is located....being a Range Rover owner too, I have kinda got used to the RAVE manuals, this elearn thing will take some getting used to!!

Know the feeling, only had one clear day since last wednesday and that was christmas day. The one day I couldnt go look at the car, so im still to have a go at looking and resolving mines.
Shall get to it and will have to be done by march ;)

Yep, little pipe had disconnected from under the scuttle panel.

Attached are some photos of the job, dead simple although access can be limited!!

Brief synopsis:

  • Lift Bonnet
  • Unclip the covers to the wiper spindles
  • Prise off the nut covers on the wipers
  • Unbolt wipers and wiggle off the shafts
  • Remove the 3 plastic press fit poppets to the scuttle panel
  • Carefuly lift the front edge of the panel and then pull down and away from under the lower edge of the windscreen
  • Be cautious of the washer jet pipes clipped to the underside
  • You can now see the pipe join
  • I couldn't get my hands in enough to rejoin so I removed the plastic bulkhead surround
  • Undo the 4 plastic retainers (2 on each side)
  • Undo the 5 screws holding the surround in place
  • Carefully lift up and off
  • There is a little rubber gromet that fits into the pipes, my one had come out of the pipe to the rear screen and was still sitting on the connector.
  • Paitiently I tried to get this little gromet back into the pipe - 30 minutes and lots of swearing later I got it back on
  • Reattached the two pipes together and tested the rear washer - Success
  • In order to prevent detachment again, I used cable ties to hold the join in place - not neat, but it works
  • Reassemble in reverse order - caution to get the scuttle panel to clip in to the lower part of the windscreen so it sits flat against the screen
Job Done....apart from getting the stupid rubber gromet back in, dead simple would have taken 30 minutes, but took just over an hour thanks to the gromet!!!

I'd say they're single-use fastenings. I replaced mine with some black nuts, bolts & washers I had laying around.

That's what I came away thinking after putting it back to a position where i didn't destroy one completely.
I dont have anything to replace them with either so guess I should hold off for now.

How did you get them off anyhow? because that part is still something I cannot work out.

Using a screwdriver to prise up the centre pin, then grab with pin-nose pliers to pull the pin out and then lever the remainder out!!

Gave it a proper go today.
well call me a failure because thats what happened. the rubber gromet went missing so ive not got it reattached, and when putting things back together, managed to break one of the retaining clips on the scuttle panel.
damn i hate myself right now
