As the 500 only came with one remote locking control looking to get a second one. There was no key code card (other thread suggest they are no longer supplied and details and kept centrally ? ISR).

Is the best way to order via dealer (will he be able to get correct code) or is there another cheaper easy way from independent supplier?

thanks

I did an almost identical thread as I was in exactly the same position as you.

Bottom line is that it will cost you £150 ish (n) and a lot of time and effort to get it sorted, so if you can do without then that may be the better option.

I thought I needed a second remote keyfob, but 4 weeks later I'm wondering why. :)

£150 sounds very pricy. At that price will review whether really need one. Disappointed that Fiat are mean enough to only provide one, all our other cars (VW, mercedes, Land Rover ) have come with two.
Wonder if there are any independent suppliers.

My spare key came with a purple plastic fob thing attached that says the details needed to program a new key - was yours new? My oh doesn't like driving my car - a 2nd remote isn't needed in my case, but I can see why it would be useful for others.

Maybe they didnt think of giving a 2nd remote key because Fiat would assume you like your car so much you dont want to share it with anyone. It would be interesting for someone to report negotiating this with the dealer when ordering though; i really need a 2nd remote key, if i dont get it as part of the car i may have to buy something else, that sort of drift.

"Very good, Sir. I shall add it to your order. That will be 275 of your finest English pounds please."

Mr lawyer read the small print please and i'll make it more clear to avoid the loopholes.

I would like to have the 2nd remote key included in the price we agreed for the purchase of the car before i asked about the 2nd remote key.

It depends what else they have already thrown in and how much they need a sale to hit targets. They are unlikely to sell a car at a loss, and the key will still cost them a fair bit.

And I'll let you in on a secret Ahmett - the dealer does not make £15,000 from each Fiat 500 they sell.

Fair enough. I got 350 euros worth of free toys with my car. Funny enough they also put foglights in as well which i didnt ask; either that or Fiat just threw it in themselves, so i think its worth trying your luck for the key, or calling fiat directly and stating your case and saying you really want the car but you cant do it without the key, who knows it may work, in reality it probably costs fiat 20 euros not 150 that they are claiming.

I think dealers should just be a part of Fiat none of this franchise rubbish. The quality control is a joke as Fiat have no control over bad dealers, except ban them long after the damage has already been done to the customer.
I have a friend from Argentina buying a Fiat 500 and after the car arrived and they paid the money, the dealer kept on saying there are big delays in customs. After waiting a while and getting frustrated over the course of a few weeks, they call Fiat directly and they say this shouldnt be, you will get your car next week.

(i then told him make sure the dealer that sold your car doesnt service it, as they may have a grudge on you for telling them off to fiat and sabotage your car haha. This doesnt happen so often in 'fair' England, but in third world countries, believe me it wouldn't be a surprise!)

On a previous discussion (it was probably included in the 'other' thread) fitting an alarm system is a way of getting an 'extra' remote without having to 'directly' pay for it.
Robin has corrected the 'pricey £150' with a more realistic one but AFAIK the only way of getting a proper remote is from the dealer. Expect that will change since the 500 is now into its 5th year.

Expect not at its the same tech that Fiat have used accross the range since 2003>

People moan about not getting a 2nd remote, can only use one at once. Don't buy a budget car brand motor if you don't like it. :)

I do agree with that. But then the 500 pulls in punters despite its humble background.

I don't agree with that. If two people both use a car then they both need a key. And yes, I got the rubbish one - but then my wife does drive it 5 days out of 7.

You think they'll throw away 15000 deal for 100 pounds? I think they will give in.

I decided not to buy a new Jag a few years back from a dealer that wouldn't throw in a set of £50 mats. Neither of us would back down and I walked out of the showroom before signing £29k away .
I found another dealer that gave me a slightly better deal on my p/ex and threw in mats and mudflaps. :)
Moral of the story - stick to your guns

Well just had quote from dealer for second remote and key - UK £272 . Seems extortionate - will live without it.

Yes, my 500C Gucci also come with 1 remote key and 1 normal key. Fiat should allow buyer the option of a 2nd remote key. Would be easier for the owner.
