Hi All,
Can anyone please advise me? My 'change oil light' has just illuminated on my Fiat 500 Multijet diesel's instrument panel.
I can change the oil and filter easily myself and have an ELM 327 interface and the free version of Fiatecuscan 3.6
Will this free version allow me to switch the 'Change oil light' off?

Thanks for any thoughts. I'm sure some of you must have tried this combination or would know any way.

Jason has all the tech stuff, and I'm hoping he'll pick up on this thread and give us the benefit of his experience.

There is a previous thread on this, but I find all this interface business a tad confusing, so a second run through would be helpful.

I believe the green cable is the one you want which interfaces with the ECU and lets you clear alarms and errors. I think the free version of the ECU scan will do it. Failing that if you're in London welcome to borrow mine and give it a go.

Thank you Snes and Jenoiles.
Hopefully someone who has done this will pick up on the thread. Thanks also for the offer of giving it a try at yours! I'll give it one more week before giving it a go myself and then we'll see.
It's a shame that one has to try a garage before knowing how good they really are, and risk losing money in the process. If I can do it myself, I'd much rather do it myself. If I'm successful, I'll post all the details!

According to Shadeyman it doesn't do it anymore.

There has been a few issues with dodgy cables so getting a cable of a recommended genuine seller is important.

Turtle got it done in Kwik fit for £20 and if you're only doing it once a year it's the most cost effective route since a licenced copy of FiatECUScan only lasts for 12 months. Have seen 'reports' of Fiat doing it for £40.

You can do a search for 'Indicator reset' on the FF but to keep it 'simple' here are some recent threads on the topic on the 500 section...

There is a sealey tool but it's expensive and it didn't do the oil degradation monitor reset but some garages seem to use it.

Did you have any luck resetting the light? Curious now to know if ECU scan will do the diesel one. :)

Something in the back of my mind is recalling that the diesel is harder to reset for some reason. Certainly I've reset my service light on a 1.4 petrol.

I'm also curious - didn't know there was a 'service light' (message?) on the 1.4 petrol? I had mine serviced by a dealer so I guess I have a year to figure it out.

I lifted the following from the ecu scan manual. It suggests that a reset is possible plus oil change warning reset. I have yet to connect my version of the program so can't verify how easy this is in practise - Jason, any chance you could have a rummage?

Please note that for vehicles equipped with DPF you also need to reset the
Oil Change indicator in engine control module. You have to connect to the
engine control module, then go to Adjustments and execute “Oil Change”
procedure.

I haven't got a diesel to try it on. Are you near London? Fancy a catch up and we can give it a go? Or I could try it on Alex365's the next time I'm oop north or he's down south?

I am guessing he is not going to drive the 12,000 miles just to test this out.

It's the 'oil degradation index' that you have to reset in the ECU's 'configuration', this will reset it back to 100%. There is also 'service information counter' in instrumentation however this will clear itself after 1 month.

It's worth paying a small amount to get the oil light (flashing) put out (damage can occur otherwise) however the service indicator can be ignored and will go off itself. However lets not forget the benefits of servicing so make sure everything gets done(y)

Do I really need to answer this ? :p
I thought I explained myself quite well in post 5. :)

Paying £50 odd for a licenced copy of FiatECUScan that only lasts 1 year and paying between £20-£40 to have someone else put the light out is cheaper on the basis that you only have to do it once a year.

No, what I mean is since when has it only been valid for 12 months. It's lifetime I thought? I've had mine more than a year and it's still fully functional!

It is lifetime. Quote from their website:
"The License is also valid for 1-YEAR FREE UPDATES of the FiatECUScan software. After 1 year you can continue to use the software forever, but you will not be able to update it. The price of additional 1-YEAR updates is the same as the regular REGISTERED License price (50 EUR)."
