I was having a nose around at the local dealers this afternoon, and during a rather pleasant and informative chat with the salesman I was told that the Twin Air Engine is no longer available on the Lounge spec. Was news to me (its still available with the configurator, but that means nowt) has anyone else heard this?

Well we ordered one last Saturday and they never said anything about the engine/spec combinations changing so I think he's talking rubbish!

or your dealer is the one that doesn't know what they're talking about

My dealer didn't say anything about it!
I haven't read on here, on other forum's or heard anything from any other source that anything is changing so I guess the OP's dealer is talking BS!
You look as though you've been part of the forum for a while and have experience with the brand, wouldn't you know if this was the case?

Fiat do strange things. It's unlikely but not impossible

What makes you say that? Have you had a bad experience in the past with Fiat?
I must say I'd be very p'd off if I spent a week getting to grips with the spec and making sure I knew what I was talking about, going into the showroom to order a car and them turning around and saying it's all changed!

would be a strange move given most 500s i see are Lounge spec, TA+ is a great looking car but not everyones cup of tea, that said i've seen some daft spec changes recently on other cars

I think it's perfectly plausible.

When the TwinAir model came out, you could buy 500's with TwinAir engines in so many different formats (Pop, Lounge, Sport, TwinAir, TwinAir Plus etc etc). There were far too many formats IMO.

However I agree it would be a strange move as the Lounge is renowned as being one of the most, if not the most popular trim.

The dealer told me that Fiat had changed the line up around 2 months ago. He said that they were in the process of selling of any TA Lounges that had already been built but that no new ones would be made. Dunno how that stacks up with mkp182 ordering one last week unless it was one of the 'already' built ones

When I ordered my Lounge TA (June 2011) I had a frantic phonecall from the lad telling me that the lounge trim option wasn't available anymore. After alot of annoyed discussion he went away and managed to find the option on the system again. Could it be that the system has changed and moved options around on their order system?
Alternatively, check out the fiat 500 italy configurator for an idea of that's available in Italy - if it's not on there then maybe the option is being phased out or re-named in the UK?

I think it's plausible too. The impression I have is that the TA engine is being pushed for its performance. The Lounge model doesn't fit with the TA as the sporty engine. The 1.2 Sport was dropped about this time last year. This could just be the flip side of that change.

That pretty much seemed to be the point that he was making, that the Lounge and Twin Air were targetted at different markets.

But given that the particular guy I was talking to was the Abarth brand manager we had a nice chat about those too :yum:

I just had a go on fiat.it and lounge twinair (0.9 TwinAir Turbo 85cv Lounge) is on there, so I suspect it's a glitch on the UK system in preparation for changes that will happen here in the july-september quarter.

Edit: Also I notice that the italians get jive blue (or a colour that looks like it) as their no cost colour option!

No, they could not source one with the spec we chose, so it's getting biult from scratch!
