I was shocked to see petrol pouring out onto the forecourt in Tescos on Saturday 17 December, from the fuel tank area of my 500; I assumed it might be a split tank following a very hard frost.
The problem has now been checked by Perrys (Aylesbury) and they are reporting that the fuel in and out hoses have been eaten by rodents!
Has anyone else come across this? Presumably now they have developed a taste for them it will be a problem that doesn't go away. I do live in a rural location, but I have not heard of this problem previously.
Can the pipes be wrapped in steel mesh?
Do I fit a rat trap, and if so, how do I empty it?
How much should replacing the hoses cost; I will know more about the problem tomorrow.

Thanks for this, but we are talking Aylesbury Vale, not Angus, Scotland. Or have the Scottish rodents got more mobile?

Seen them shred a cars interior in the past....

Your best option is going to be to control the little blighters...

Rat poison in bait boxes near the car parking area

they can be had from the likes of ebay and Amazon

If you have a real infestation a few mk4 Fenn traps well reduce the numbers as fast as you can reset them (i bait with a mix of pea nut butter and Chocolate spread) just cover them with a bucket with a hole cut in the side so they can get in and a brick on top..... so you cant catch next doors cat or any local children, They are a bit Barbaric but they will catch the biggest fattest rats your ever likely to find

Just wondering if you could fit braided fuel lines

Again thanks, but I was putting this out as a question/warning, not a philosophical speculation?

If you go down the poison route you might have to try a few types some like some poisons more than others....

We use a combination of Neosorexa , Tomcat, and Retokill laced grain (basicly what ever is the right price at the time ;) )

Obviously if you have kids/ other animals the Blocks are better as they can be threaded onto wire inside the box so the cant be dragged out by a rat and consumed by children / other animals

Aha, I guess I was still reeling from the surprise of it all, I will start checking out the trap/poison situation tomorrow. I know one or two places locally, and I will be up in Malton, N Yorks, soon and will check out Woodall and Sons in the Market there.

Many thanks
