Just wondering what penalty is levied towards miscreant 500 owners who chop their 500's in for Mini's? I have it on good authority that a longtime member on here is guilty of the above mentioned crime.

What say you? What should be we do to him/her? ;)

I used to have a Mini but chopped it in for a Sport hopefully that redeems me!!

I loved my Mini but can honestly say I love the 500 more - so much so that I've just changed my 3 year old Sport for a twin air plus - and I luuuurrrrrve that even more (even despite my silly little engine cutting out problem!!)

My girlfriend is getting a Cooper S next year, and I'm getting insured on it! I can't wait personally, they drive really well and are pretty quick too. :)

plenty of answers to this already if you use google search, here is a quick [ame="http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=how+to+get+some+one+comitted&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&channel=suggest"]LINK[/ame]

did they miss all the posts in the early days from people that gave up their fake minis for 500's

The 500 and Mini do have something in common - they both carry a significant price premium for desirability, and neither is built to a quality which justifies their price tag in comparison to less-fashionable but otherwise comparable cars.

Don't worry maxi they already lost so much money from purchasing the Mini in the first place. I was considering the Mini Cooper S in Greece but its like 35,000 EUROS! THats almost double what i paid for the Fiat 1.4 so no thank you i'll be keeping my Fiat! In England from what I see the difference in price is still big, but not DOUBLE.

I am a guilty one! Changed from an '04 BMW Mini Cooper to a 500 TA Lounge this year. The Mini was a brilliant drive and felt more "sporty" than the 500. However, the ride was much harsher, even after I ditched the run-flats. The interior plastics were better in the Mini, too. I was tempted to by a used example of one of the post 2007 "Mk2" Coopers, but I've always liked the look of the 500 and the lure of being able (just) to afford a new TA was too much. No regrets so far, but I wouldn't say I'll never have another Mini.

On a slightly different note I did notice an ad for the Mini First in the paper the other day. Can be got for around 12k or with an approx £1500 deposit and 48 payments of £170 per month (which includes your principal servicing too).

I don't personally like the Mini much, and the First seems to have equipment levels similar to the Pop, but where there used to be a ma-hoosive difference in price between it and the 500, there doesn't seem to be any more.

I just compared a Mini First with a 500 1.2 Pop on their respective configurators. Both in white, with no options, the Mini is £11800, the 500 is £9900, so still nearly 2 grand difference. The performance and equipment levels are similar. The Fiat has a better choice of interior colours - with the Mini it's grey. Normally I'd say the Mini would hold its value betterthan the 500, but I can't see the First being popular on the secondhand market. In fact, for £11500 you can get the 500 1.2 Lounge - hate to think what the Mini would cost if you specced it similarly to that. Don't get me wrong - I like Minis, but they are more overpriced than the 500 in my view.
