Is there anyone out there who has his Twinair remapped? If so: where did you get your mapping, is it a universal map or a bespoke remap for your car only? What was the price. What are your experiences? Show here your Twinair graphs and so on.

No one has remapped their twinair? or is planning to remap it? Here in Holland we have Squadra tuning who can now remap the twinair to 95bhp, they say they won't do more because of the reliability. They also put the redline from 6000 rpm to 6600 rpm.

Here are some graphs:

I think that the absence of a reply gives you your answer.

I, and most certainly my wife, whose car it is, wouldn't consider it at all.

There's a potential for causing all kinds of problems with the engine itself, putting more strain on all other components including brakes, tyres and suspension. You'd have to contact your insurance company and premiums would rise. Fuel consumption would probably increase, and very importantly, the warranty would be invalid.

If that's not enough to put your average owner off I don't know what is.

I`m considering it, but first I have to brake in the engine.
Preferably I want a tuning box which I can remove if necessary.
I must say that torque curve looks tempting J

I've had several cars remapped and generally had good experiences. However, with a new engine like the TA I don't want to take the risk.
Once they have been around for a few years and people have got some miles on them, then it's a different story. In the meantime, I'll let others find out where the engine and drivechain limits are.

I wouldn't say the torque curve of the 'improved' map is ideal, the torque drop off at higher revs is quite sharp, so the engine will feel like it hits a bit of a stone wall. It really needs a bigger turbo AND a remap to get the best output..

That is the only thing that holds me back from chip tuning the 500. How is the reliability? Hard to say with a engine as new as this one.

Won't be mapping mine, 85bhp and drum rears provides enough enjoyment, in reality I think there will be more than enough tolerance of the extra 10% but circa £300 for it isn't good vfm

Oddly in day to day running both of our mapped cars are more economical given the extra torque

Agreed. However, the output gains seem small though and it is unlikely to be Fiat approved as Fiat's tuned machines come from Abarth. The engine has not been around long enough with a proven track record for reliability.

In such a small light car, small increases make a big difference in performance. Personally though I'd always just buy the more powerful variant or in this case, wait for the more powerful variant to come out.

Yes, I would like an Abarth:devil:

Well then buy one. I never quite understand the fact that some people buy a 1.2 and then upgrade to an Abarth a year or two later.

Just seems such a waste to pay for the depreciation on two cars when you only want one.

As RobinPJ mentioned, I was actually referring to the 105bhp twinair :)

I do like the name twinhurricane, perhaps Fiat can have an advertising campaign with the Scorpions? :chin:

Well as you asked, but its a bitter pill... are you sitting comfortably, then listen pray... they (some people) buy the 500 1.2 because of the charm and soon realises the 1.2 is a let down, TA will not give them the pleasure so Abarth is the one.

You would never hear me say I want an Abarth

Hey, the forum is too quite without Loveshandbags, I miss your banter with him :(

He is not so far away - despite not posting for a week he was logged in yesterday. Suspect he won't be able to go "cold turkey" for much longer...

Are you stalking :)
He is probably having too much fun on some other forum signed in with a new alias arguing with maxi who is under another alias too, I would say that reminds me of the chicken fight in Family guy but that's way too much visualization for this time of day ;)

The problem for me is that the Abarth isn't really that great a performance car. There are so many other cars which do what it's meant to do better and for less money.

But perhaps that's just "Daniel" logic and I guess if someone wants something that looks like a 500 and is relatively sporty then only an Abarth will do.

IMHO the 1.2 and Twinair actually really suit the 500 which is why these engines make up the vast majority of the sales.

I'm sure he'll be back. I saw him liking some post that someone has posted as a lighthearted joke directed at me.
