Hi,

Unfortunately my beloved 2010 1.2 Sport has sodden carpet in the drivers footwell and I don't know where the water is coming from!

The dealer had the car on Friday and removed and resealed the windscreen as that apparently is usually the source of leaks. However, heavy rain over the weekend has soaked the carpet again. (I am fairly sure its rain water now).

I don't know what to do next, I don't have much faith in my local dealership and would like to solve or at least pin point the cause before I go back. Has anyone had anything similar or got any ideas where it could be getting in?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The air conditioner evaporator drain is in the drivers footwell (little pipe near the clutch pedal), but it doesn't sound like that could be the source in this case.

Use a good torch and work up!

have a look under the bonnet for leaves etc up by the wind screen, these may be blocking any drain holes and over flowing water where it shouldn't go. Had this happen on a few of my cars now and it took me ages to find the problem.

I have had this in both footwells but not at the same time.
It does not happen all the time either. I think the water may be getting in when the car is parked facing uphill, possibly from the windscreen drainage points.

Thanks Guys,

I have just been pouring water over the windscreen and trying to work out what happens.

It seems that by design the majority of water runs along the plastic trim and through the hole for the drivers side wiper. It drips onto the shock mount and pools there (as described here "163669-rusty-front-shock-absorber-screw-threads").

Thats where I get lost because the overspill from there seems to go down the drain holes, but also somehow gets inside.

I am really annoyed, the car has only done 5k miles! I am waiting for a call from Fiat in the next couple of days, I'll keep you posted.

It certainly sounds as though a drainage tube has become disconnected and the rainwater instead of ending up on the ground under the car is instead getting inside the car via a loose bulkhead grommet or following a wiring loom into the car and then dripping onto the carpet.

As Bookish has said keep us informed as to the cure when you get it sorted.

hi if you have a sun roof get someone to ges a hosepipe and put water all over the roof and front of the car stay inthe car and you should see were it is coming in..

No sunroof so I can rule that out.

I received this from Fiat today...

"Given the nature of your enquiry I have passed your communication and
details to my colleagues in our Customer Relations Department.

One of our Customer Relations Executives will contact you within 3 working
days to discuss your case in more detail."

Has anyone got any experience on how they will deal with it?
Thanks

Have you seen the "interesting experiences with Fiat CS" thread?

I am also having the same problem, water in driver seat footwell. it is more during the rainy season due to the fact that there is more humidity and more condensation. But no matter how hard I googled I never got any photo or diagram indicating the location of Ac drain of my FIAT Palio. I have read somewhere that the drain is in the passenger side of the car. Can anyone help me please?

I didn't know this car existed. You learn something new everyday.:)

My husband has this on his civic and we have no idea where the water is coming from (passenger footwell). He says his car smells like a stagnant pond now lol. If u find out what it is on the fiat please let me know as it may help us diagnose where his water is coming from!

Update - the dealer had the car back and claimed no new water had got in, they put the pooling down to water being squeezed out of the dense insulating material under the carpet. They may have been right, I don't think any more water is getting in but we haven't had a decent downpour for a while. Fingers crossed the source was the windscreen and resealing it has done the trick!

Fiat CS didn't do much, I did eventually get a courtesy call explaining what the garage had already told me but that was about it.

First and foremost get the Air conditioner drain checked by a mechanic. Ask him to clear it if it is clogged. Although the Ac drain is under the glove compartment side It flows to the driver side foot well through the bottom plate under the car. If this is clear you can check for other possibility like front glass beading door rubber sun roof etc.
The clogged Ac drain is very hard to find and since it is clear water and humidity is more during rainy season causing more condensation it makes us look for a rain water leak. I had this problem for about 3 years and no technician could identify the problem at the service center!

Sorry to bounce this but noticed today that the drivers side footwell on my UK RHD 500 is very wet. Not on top but underneath.

When I push down on the heel reinforcer, water comes through the seams of the hard plastic heel section.

The removable mats are dry.

Car doesn't have a glass roof or sunroof but has climate control.

Given the dry weather, the aircon has been on full tilt. Car hasn't been washed or out in the wet for over a month & last time I hoovered it out was just after the last wash / wet use & everything was dry.

I suspect it air con condensation drain as it's not dirty water or tainted with screen wash or anti freeze & the same issue is currently plaguing the passenger side footwell of our Alfa GT(n)

Any thoughts folks or any other similar experiences or resolution:confused:

Cheers,

Ta(y) So, is it a known issue / warranty job (in year 3)

It's certainly been reported before.

Chances are the evaporator drain pipe has either become blocked or come loose. IIRC in a previous thread someone described the factory method of attaching the pipe as 'naff' and suggested a better way of securing it, but despite spending 10 mins using the search function, sadly I can't find it.
