General 500c boot stuck. Help required please!

I know this is YEARS later, but thank you so much for the advice, i also had the problem of the boot not opening, and this procedure cleared it up perfectly. PS. problem was probably caused by two people pushing the two roof buttons at the same time ;)

Hi Russell 1 , this is how it ended , after. 2 weeks the new module arrived , when the dealer fitted it , nothing worked!!. So they told me it was the wrong module sent by Fiat. They told me it would be 3 days for the correct module to arrive from Fiat....1 week later still no module:mad: upto this point I've paid in full for the car ,it's registered with the V5 in my name and I haven't even driven the car. Another week passed by still no module. I asked the dealer if I could drive the car without the boot working because I had no car and I needed to get to work, they said NO , because the module linked to the central locking and in an emergency I may not be able to open the doors and escape from the car:eek:
At this point I asked for another car because this new car clearly had major faults and they were in breach of contract to supply me a working car not a new faulty car. The dealer manager was very arrogant and told me to read the small print and Bristol Street motors had 6 months before they had to give me the car,(n) . I saw citizens advise and they gave me a letter to show the manager asking for my money back under the sale of goods act, faulty goods:cool: dealer told me I was wrong and could not have my money back.:bang: I went to the show room and kicked off after 2 hours got my money back :slayer: went to Arnold Clark and bought a new 500c with no problems, it's beautiful and has been real good fun this summer:cool:.

the common-sense solution was simply to splice the loom and fix the broken wires locally, but that this would leave them (the dealer) at risk of getting any future warranty claim refused if the same problem cropped up again.

Well, surprise surprise the same problem did crop up again. I fixed it myself this time, and here's my DIY photo-shoot in case it helps anybody else with the boot lid wiring problem:

There is an extra 12 page manual for the 500c, which should have been provided. Have a look through your documents in case you've missed it - it's just a thin leaflet so easy to overlook.

Instructions for the roof re-set are as follows:

Initialisation Procedure

The soft top must be re-initialised after disconnecting the battery or if the relevant protection fuse is blown (which I guess has happened to you?).

Proceed as follows:

make sure the motor is running during the whole initialisation procedure

keep the opening button pressed until the soft top is completely open

when the soft top is completely open, keep the button pressed for at least 2 seconds

keep the closing button pressed until the soft top is completely closed

when the soft top is completely closed, keep the button pressed for at least 2 seconds

When the procedure is terminated, the soft top will automatically carry out a complete opening and closing cycle (up to 25 cm from the completely closed position) to inform the driver that correct operation has been restored.

Hope this helps! :)
This worked perfectly! No fuse or battery problem. Was cleaning my car inside with 5 year old daughter playing on the back seat with roof open. She must have leant on the open roof, and left it in an 'open' state. Same issues as described in this forum. The reset has stopped me panicking, and a big apology to my daughter (chocolate covered).

OMG I love this forum. Just been outside inspecting my latest acquisition Cat C.

Put a new headlight in the boot, then couldn't get the hoot open again. Noticed that the roof wasn't one touch any more. Came in proofs, googled it and found the reset procedure here.

Went back out, tried it and it's working again. Thank you to all.

If I had to guess would say roof goes back so far so doesn't damage spoiler or the boot so the boot can be closed if the roof fails. What engine has your new project got, as a Twinair convertible would be a lot of fun with roof down and cold aircon. 1.2 lovely engine, performance just isn't the same though.

Sorry, you misunderstood what I meant. I've looked at photos of other 500Cs and the roof goes all the way back folding the window flat. Mine only seems to go as far as the spoiler.

It's only the 1.2 I'm afraid.
