I know the car's not coming til mid June :) but Ive been looking at a re-map and wondered if anyone had taken the plunge? Ive found a few companies ofering a 15bhp and 11 ftlb increases. Got to be worth looking at once the (miserly) 2 year warranty is up.

I'm assuming the rumoured forethcoming 105bhp TA is just a remap too?

the warranty is 3 years on the powertrain. Personally I'd wait till others have the remap done to see whether it's worth it

The guys who are offering the re-map - is this flashed on the current ECU or is it a piggyback / plug one similiar to the TMC 'chip upgrade' on the Abarth and can be added ? / removed by the owner.
I did read that there was some delay in releasing the 105bhp model due to the additional strain on the standard gearbox by the added boost.

Its a flashed ECU. Thanks for the heads up BTW.

leave it be i say on the TA, honestly £300-£400 for an extra 15bhp isn't good vfm on an 'ittle car and enjoy it for what it is, both of ours are mapped but 70-100bhp increases for £500 was a far better deal

I would agree all those before me. I wasn't trying to encourage you :). Warranty will get messed up with a flashed ECU plus you will be in the same boat as the Abarth guys who have chipped their cars - much more regular oil changes and there is the ? over the gearbox. Plus if your car is being bought on Finance you cann't 'touch your car'.

I don't know anything about this remap, but surely more power and torque puts more strain on everything else.

It also means you need to advise your insurance company who will put your premium up.

Still, you pays your money......

I kinda agree with TwinAir. There are a quite a few out there who have tinkered with turning up the boost and regretted it. On such a new engine as the Twin Air it might prove very expensive and not worth it for the few extra horses. I have tinkered and just about got away with it on another car and the gearbox became the issue. I wouldn't do it on your new TA with the side moulding and the italian badges :). You'll have plenty of power.

Thanks for all the comments. |Very sensible lot arent you?

I wouldnt want to rip off those lovely badges with the extra speed from the remap so its probably one to leave well alone.

I wonder if you can get a really farty back box for it..................:)

You wouldn't need a back box for it - the engine will make all the noises you'll ever need :). Re the badges coming off that will only happen if you use bluetack ;).

far from sensible just saying how i see it, not great vfm imho, in reality 15-20% increase isn't much to get excited about

in reality there is a certain degree of engineered tolerance in modern cars, on mapped cars isn't the power thats the issue its the torque, in reality you clutch should start slipping before a gear box lets go

you do limit your insurance options with mapped cars, i can't see 20% loading a premium but certain parties won't touch you, then you get the element who don't declare

intresting how dealers react, both of our VWs which are no longer standard are on SMT packages and they have been happily serviced and looked after including warranty claims, the issue is whether the modification has caused the failure when you are on a sticky wicket

70-100 bhp?? you must have a Veyron...

not trying to put off just saying why i won't be modding mine, i don't want the TA to end up as a car which is removed from its original purpose which is to allow me to modify the VWs even more :)

durakan 70-100bhp is realtivley straight forward on 2 litre turbo VWs, admitidly i need a tbe to get the 100

i'm a big fan of mapping but on the right car and for the love of god steer clear of superchips/chumps products given their figures are always rather generous
