Probably a silly question but humour me!

My new car should be arriving next weekend, and my current car is being taken in part exchange, so today I've been giving it a bit of a clear out. I've got a set of Fiat mats which are in very good condition and as I'm not getting a new set with the new car I thought I might as well keep them to save forking out for a new set. I've removed all the mats but there is still a plasctic 'lug' in the drivers side footwell which seems to be fitted from underneath the carpet. Does this come out? If so how? If it doesn't come out will the new car have the same 'lug' fitted so that I can fit the current mats OK?

Thanks in advance for any responses :)

The 500 branded mats that I had in the car that I just sold had only had a dummy lug on the exposed area of the mat - the mats were 'fixed' with stickies which are part of the mat.
A good yank will probably get the old ones out of your old car.
It would be an awful shame to put old ones in a new car fresh smell 500.
The 500 ones (new ones) are poor quality but at least they're light and initially look good and cost around €50.
Some dealers will throw them in free if you bend their arm and they might give them to you at cost. If you stuck Tescos do cheap plastic ones for small change.

Thanks. I've got the mats out but it doesn't seem to be a 'dummy' lug.

I know what you mean about the new car smell but it's a 500c and I'll be driving around with the roof down as much as possible so the new smell probably won't linger too long :)

I don't want to get cheap mats so figure I may as well keep the good quality, good condition set that I have now for the time being. No chance of getting any free from the dealer and as I've just spent over £15,000 on a car which I wasn't planning on getting (just popped into the show room whilst waiting for the MOT to be done ) it will save some pennies too.

Halfords type 1 car mats are a good fit for the 500 and are of decent quality - mine are a year old now and are wearing well. £24.99 for a set of 4.

They are also a good fit for the Panda - I've got a set in each car.

I bought a set of these today

The mats we bought when we first got the car were from Ebay and whilst the top of the mats was fine, the underneath had started to deteriorate. Had a set of Michelin mats in my 406 a couple of years back and they wore very well, having quite deep tread in them, they also catch rocks, sand and liquid very well!

They look to be decent mats too. Guess it comes down to whether you prefer carpet or rubber.
The mats I got for the 500 were the first carpet ones I ever got and tbh they weren'te great. I'm sure if I had genuine ones they'd be better, but you go with what you know and trust :)

This is what it looks like when you unscrew it.

Thanks, that's useful. I could release the mat by unscrewing the lug a little but it doesn't seem to want to come all the way out - it just keeps turning round. I didn't want to pull on it too hard in case it ripped the carpet but I'll give it another try tomorrow.

Its definately a screw in lug, I screwed mine into the carpet when I picked the car up.

Cheers
