Took the fiat 500 to willenhall fiat as the mileage was flashing the other day (only did it once) and I read on here it's best to get it checked out. Took them 3 hours! Then told me pads need changing front suspension mounts are perished and tyres need changing. (pads look fine and tyres IMHO look legal)

Anyway are top suspension mounts not covered under warranty?

Thanks

How old is the car?

58 plate warranty until the summer July time I think.

I've found the wear on the tyre now it's on the inside edge which could be caused by the top mounts going but I read on the "fiat forum" that someone had the top mounts replaced under warranty . I've emailed fiat customer service as well but no ones back till Monday.

Thanks

top strut mounts covered under 3 years, nothing to do with tyre wear.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Yeah, sure they're covered. To the original poster, good luck getting the dealer to honour that. I gave up with them and just bought a pair. £80 a set.

Also, make sure they get put in right. They actually fit in the car both the correct and incorrect way. If you fit them the incorrect way you get about a degree and a half of negative camber and your tyres wear a bit quicker. Corners much better mind you, but tyre wear is increased.

:)

I had my front strut mounts replaced under 3rd year warranty last month.

I've also had both wishbones replaced in the 2nd year of ownership.

fellowsuk, top strut mounts ARE covered by 3rd year warranty (it's my job!) and they are £14 each +VAT. The mounts themselves cannot perish as such but the bearings run dry and you get a jerking grinding noise from the mount when you turn the steering wheel.

Easy to change yourself - https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-pu...-top-bearing-removal-service-replacement.html

The top mounts I had replaced looked different to those in the grande punto guides. On the 500 they're oval-ish rubber bungs. Replacing them was as simple as getting the top bolt off and popping them in and out. The top of the 500 moves around in odd ways that the GP doesn't.

The wife phoned fiat today and they are coming to collect the car from work next Monday to do the suspension! They also said they would fully valet the car for her for wasting 3 hours on Saturday and worrying her about the work needing doing and forgetting to tell her it was covered under the warranty ! I'll repost after Monday to make sure all the works been done. Don't know if I can blag a free tyre as the uneven wear (IMHO from reading online could attribute to the wear)

Thanks for the help without you guys we might just have taken it to a local independent garage and paid for the work to be done.

just a quick up date, fiat came and collected the car to do the suspension........and they had ordered the wrong parts?!!? so its gotta go back again on thursday! i'll keep u all posted!

Yeah thats just dreaming trying to get a new tyre as thats just a general cost of running a car

IMHO:

Fair wear and tear of the tyres is part of the general cost of running a car.

Abnormal wear of the tyres which is a direct consequence of the failure of a component covered by warranty isn't.

I still don't think it's reasonable to expect new tyres. Depending on the mileage you've done on the old & supposedly now worn out ones, you might try asking for a contribution, though I'd be pleasantly surprised if you got anything meaningful.

I once recall a case where a new set of fronts was scrubbed to the wires on the outside edge after less than 1000 miles, due to a dealer fitting a new rack & failing to set the alignment afterwards. IIRC after much argument the dealer paid the cost of the tracking & replacement tyres.

This is a good opportunity to say that it's well worth examining your tyres from time to time & getting the tracking checked soonest if you notice they are wearing unevenly. Especially on a new car as it's surprising how many are out, often by a considerable margin.

And as it's forecast to be warm & sunny this week for most of the UK, why not do it now?

Just off to check mine...

Good shout actually i think mines got about 820 miles on it now so time to check the oil again and i'll check the tyres too (y)

Just below 7mm on each edge on all 4 tyres after 3k. So no sign of uneven wear as yet. No significant oil consumption either, thank goodness.:)

Now must remember to check the Panda when LadyKitching gets home this evening...
Comparitively speaking the first 2mm seem to go quite quickly on tyres on the 500, after that they seem to be taking ages to go down any lower!
