Hey all
Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a fishy smell coming from the vents when ive set the heat to max and set to come through the dash vents, although not noticable when set to demist and feet.
I had checked a bit into this and there are a few suggestions of the heater matrix, which really am not keen on at all (1 month of 3rd year warrenty left, cba with arguements)
Anyhow, Coolent level has never budged and ive had the heat on all the time.

But I had a thought that it could be bacteria in the A/C system, since I doubt this has been recharged since new and I would not be surprised if the original pollen filter is still in the car.

So i'm thinking it is probably worth getting the A/C checked first ?

Methinks you might try using an aircon sanitiser; for example:

and as you've already said, change the pollen filter as well.

I'd be very surprised if there were a fault in the heater matrix.

Cheers for that, def something to look into and also good to have a second persons thought on the matter :)

Well if there's a fishy smell that may not be the sole reason.

In fact, don't always listen to people who carp on on this forum giving the same cod answers. Half the time they flounder about with different ideas (if they ever decide not to perch on the fence).

In fact, it's normally a fluke if they get it right.

You might want to ask Mantaman as he sounds like he knows his fish. But in my opinion it's obvious what your problem is - you've got a blown turbot.

[Sorry]

That's terrible :p

Leave it on high speed and eventually maybe the 30A fuse under the bonnet will blow. The fan in the Panda started to squeak a bit and then a while would blow the fuse if on high speed.

I stripped the fan and cleaned the com/brushes up and it runs fine for 6 or so months. After that it starts to squeak and also smell when on the top speed.
I think the smell is the grease etc.... getting hot in the motor due to near short circuit.

You mean the cod liver oil, of course.

I've had the AC recharge done over the past few days and the fishy smell is now gone, huzzah!
I can also confirm that there was no fish found snuck into the heater system or AC system and the rumours of the flying cat fish were greatly exagurated ;)
