I see that a similar fault has been reported before (Wobbly Clutch Pedal, by sikersh in 2009). My clutch pedal has fractured up at the top, close to where it's welded to the supporting sleeve. The pedal still works, but can wobble from side to side. This is on a 500 pop less than two years old.

I suspect the weld has left an area of metal prone to "fatigue" and it has cracked as it flexes in use.

The garage are taking it in tomorrow, that seems a good reponse to me. I'm not going to use it until they've had a look. There seem to be two elements to the pedal and the unbroken one is now taking all the thrust, so I suspect it's only useable with caution (leave extra gap to car in front, in case of unexpected leap forward).

I'm needing the car for Christmas - let's hope they can get the parts, or lend me a car in the meanwhile.

Here's some pictures. The first two are low-res and show the extent of the sideways slop. As you can imagine, this feels rather weird when driving.

The third picture is better quality, and is an attempt to show the fracture point. The rubber pedal is out of focus at the bottom of the picture. The steering column is the diagonal tube. The operating arm for the master cylinder is just below middle picture. On the enlarged view, I've highlighted the crack where the pedal assembly is supposed to join to a horizontal tube, but has broken off near the weld.

I don't think there's a lower break, but I've not been out to have a look. I've only let gorillas drive it, not elephants.

I've just worked out why your clutch pedal has been murdered:

Mine is sometimes driven by my son, 6' 8". I didn't think he'd fit, nor did he just sitting in the showroom. Many cars he finds a problem with the central console, forcing his left leg too upright. Also his feet are huge and some cars pedals are too close, or have obstructions in the footwell. But on a test drive he found it OK with the seat base fully rearwards, and the back reclined. So we bought one.

I reckon Igor needs to have his hooves restrained...

Igor collected repaired car yesterday. All on warranty. The delay was caused by getting the right part. What these garages do with all these wrong parts in the right boxes, I don't know.
