Just been out in the car and noticed that after starting it the glow plug warming light comes on and it flashed for around 20 seconds. Could this be because it's a warm day. It's a Multijet lounge and only has 20k on the clock - would it be usual for the glow plugs to go so quickly. Is it an expensive job to replace them? Would be really grateful for any suggestions.:)

My manual says that a blinking light means a glow plug failure, although it doesn't stipulate whether it just carrys on flashing or not. I guess your's stopped flashing and then you turned the engine on? The manual also states that on a hot day the light will be on a very short time.

Thanks for that. I've just been to Stoneacre fiat in Peterborough who tell me it needs 4x new glow plugs (£19.95) and a new control unit (£79.99) plus labour. They are waiting to see if Fiat will cover it as part of the third year dealer warranty as it's just over two years old. I must say I am surprised that all 4 glow plugs need replacing and it needs a new control unit. It only has 20k on the clock and I am always careful not to turn the engine till the glow plug sign goes out. I hope Fiat will cover this or else I will be very disappointed and out of pocket.

I would be highly surprised if all the glowplugs had failed, a decent independent mechanic can perform a quick manual test on each of the plugs to see if any had failed, then would be time to check the unit.

While what you say is totally correct, the last post on this thread was over 8 years ago. I doubt the OP still has the car. The only way all four plugs AND the control unit would need replacing is if the controlunit turned them all on until they burnt out.
