Yesterday and today I have had a beep when going round a tight roundabout anf the "warning oil pressure stop engine now" warning light on my 1.4 sport.
Obviously in traffic you cant just jam on the brakes and stop the engine, so I left the roundabout and warning beeps and lights go off.

I checked the oil this morning before getting car out of the garage and it appears to have exactly the same amount in it as the day I bought it which appears to be none as its difficult to see the levels on the crappy spring dipstick. The car isnt overheating and performs fine.

Im guessing its case of going round a tight roundabout too fast is causing the warning but will visit the dealer on Saturday.

Has anyone else had this issue?????

Zanes I do understand the difference but as the car appears to have a sustained warning system IE any other warning is constant until the problem is cleared I dont think this is the problem. Its a faulty sensor and not an engine killing problem. Oh and I dont think they would let this warning be there for a split second then go off, now that would be watchdog worthy.

I have seen this before on my old Cinq and Seicento Sporting, they did exactly the same.

Makes me think those sensors havent been updated much in about 10yrs as in most cases they are fine. I will do what the car says once it says it for more than about 1.5 seconds and then clears the warning.

Assuming it is a sensor that's being affected by the centripetal force, and not something physical on the engine. I agree, it probably is the sensor but I wouldn't be driving it. :)

Check the oil level again. Properly- it's not hard.

If the oil level is low, the first sign is intermittant low oil pressure warnings when turning right as what's left in the sump is pushed away from the pick-up pipe. As soon as you straighten-up, the oil returns to the pick-up, oil pressure builds again, and the light goes out.

Yeah Zanes I agree BUT

If its a sensor its wrong cos the car clears the fault.

If its a real problem I think in a straight line I would have seen a it as i use the engine to peak power on every gear change i can, which is on duals which account for 80% of my daily commute to work.

If the car screams at me to stop I will, you know what I think it is, the dealership that sold me the 11mth old car put the minimum amount of oil in and its starting to show, the moment i have the time will get some approved oil and add it, the worst that can happen if i have enough in is the car will vomit the overfill into the air filter and i need to buy one of those.

Then I can go back to the dealership and use the one punch the salesman offered me when he originally messed up my order for a brand new 500 knowing the jaw i broke was really legal lol.

Like I said, it's your car. Do whatever you want with it.

Obviously the engineers that designed the oil pressure warning system did it for a quick laugh, and the STOP ENGINE NOW, along with the warning in the handbook was the punchline.

Danny, I have never had an oil warning on this car at all and as it was first registered 1/9/2009 I wouldnt expect to.

I will add some oil this weekend once I can get to the dealers when they are open and see what happens.

I wasnt joking when I said oil level wasnt readable on the crappy dipstick at all ever. Will go kick some dealer ass on Saturday

Now I'm going out on a limb here and suggesting that this is due to the oil level being off the bottom. Even pre -wipe the level on mine is easily readable (once you ignore the spatter up the spring).

Could be SO embarrassing going into the dealer with a "kick-arse" attitude only to be told "there is no oil in it sir...." End of warranty claim if you have a real bad attitude on you, it is, after all, the owners responsibility to keep the lubricant & coolant at the correct level between services... No excuse...

Sounds like an oil level issue to me... and the 1.4 16v drinks the stuff.

Well at least my 100hp did, but then i guess i did have a rev happy right foot.

As for reading the dipstick, its a little bit crappy to read with fresh oil in, but slightly or used oil is no problem at all.

Oil filters are about a fiver. Change your oil. Drop all the old oil out and fill it with 250ml more than Fiat recommend. That'll stop it. It's just sensor positioning. Tight corners can trigger it. Also they use a lot more oil than Fiat would have you believe.

And its good to change the oil more often then the servicing. Especially if you're chucking it around. I try to do mine every few thousand miles.

The oil Pressure gauge sensor failed on my old Alfa 155, reading zero so took it to a garage, who used their own gauge in several places in engine and discovered pressure was fine, later the oil level/pressure warning light came on and stopped on, oil level was still fine, again got the garage to check pressure, fine. I drove that car for another 30,000 miles with the oil pressure light on and the gauge reading Zero. Engine was fine. But as the sensor was faulty it was constantly on. Not just briefly on which sugests to me the sensor is fine, but there maybe a lack of oil in the sump.

i once had the same halfway down craner curves at Donington!
had to put 2 litres of oil into the car!

remove the dipstick and dry it with a lint free cloth then dip with car on level ground a few mins after engine has stopped

the oil can cling to the cross hatching and give a false impression (n)

If you're oil hasn't been changed recently and you can't see it on the dipstick then you need to put some in there...........if you're getting an oil pressure warning when cornering you are starving your engine of oil, and even if its only for a short period if it happens at every roundabout you are going to be doing damage.

Certainly cheaper to get it checked than pay for a new engine when it decides to push a conrod out through the block.

i had the same problem, oil pressure warning on hard right-handers, checked oil, didnt even make the low marker on the dipstick!!!

im extremely disappointed that a 1 year old car uses this much oil in 10,000km. ive had nissans (and still do) that cop a regular belting and they dont use a noticable amount of oil. i have a VQ25DET with 110k on the clock and it doesnt use oil.

i put in almost 2L to get it up the the full level. ill be checking it more regularly from now on

not to be rude but more fool you for not checking regularly!

no offence taken, but would you buy a new car and check the oil weekly?

if a NEW car was using that much oil, would you say thats normal?

Yes, untill you can judge that appropriate interval, I check mine monthly now as it has used no oil from new I also take a quick glance at coolant and break fluid as well as a looking under and around the car.

If there is something wrong with the car and the fluids are going up or down its likely to happen int he first year and as its under warranty will get fixed for free, if you dont notice the oil drop or go up and the engine get wrecked then you will be responsible for the additional damage through not following the procedure layed down in the manual.
