My 500 Lounge is about 4 weeks old and has been back to the garage 3 times

1 .. Seat belt not recoiling
2 .. Split front tyre on the side wall
3 .. Blue&Me mic needed changing

Im OK with all that ... !

But now Ive now noticed that the accelerator pedal seems come up a bit of resistance when pushed down about an inch or so .. pushing very slightly harder pushes it through the resistance

Its not happening all the time but enough times to make me post a forum message !!

Anyone one else know where im coming from ??

Seat belts do stick sometimes, and any tire can have a split sidewall. He means he understands these things happen - the reality of life.

Pedals stick too sometimes. In the old days it was the carpet, or friction in the outer cable; now?

Edit: Not sure whether the 500 has a cable throttle or not
 
Doubt it: they're all drive by wire now aren't they? Electrical signals to the ECU.

Hence all the problems Toyota is having, which seem to be as much with electrics as the mechanical part of the linkage.
 
YES i posted this a while ago its not happening now it was when i pulled away and also changing to second its bloody daft:confused:

Interestingly (or perhaps not) it is still possible to have signals sent from the throttle to the ECU with a mechanical throttle controlling the butterfly valve.

Also, as an electronics engineer I doubt Toyota's problems (if indeed there is a widespread problem) are coming from the electronics side of the throttle control.
 
Pointless invention IMHO and one that's even worse on a small engined car.

I find I use cruise control on a daily basis, when I'm driving a vehicle with it fitted. In fact, I've had it retro-fitted to one particular car in the past. IMHO it's one of the best features you can get for a vehicle that spends any time on motorways and dual carriageways. The size of the engine makes no difference to its usefulness.
As all the hardware is already installed (apart from the stalk controls and clutch pedal switch) it seems crazy to me that it's not already there - even fairly basic Peugeots, Vauxhalls and vw group vehicles have it free or as a low-priced option nowadays.

From an earlier post in the thread , Yes its like its catching the edge of the carpet, or your foot catching on the right side of brake pedal

But it neither of these ?

I did quirt the "cure all" WD 40 in the general vicinity which did the trick for about 3 hours but the problem returned soon after that !

That's why I said it has virtually all the hardware needed, not software. Besides which, cruise control software is easy and cheap to produce - it's only recording a speed input and regulating the throttle to suit, with cut-offs for the brake and clutch pedals. It's not rocket science really.

I'm never really sure what the 500s target market is supposed to be though. Thay can't all be Chelsea types, particularly the multijet owners who are specifically told that their cars aren't best suited to town and city based work alone.

How about silicone spray?

I was assuming cruise controls use proportional integral derivative controllers rather than simple linear control, but I might be wrong. Control systems don't really come into my daily work, thank god.

I agree BTW, would be cheap to add but the vast majority of 500s wouldn't get the use out of it, IMHO. I'd much rather rain-sensing wipers, for example.

I cant face a FORTH visit to the dealer in four weeks !
