Hi,

Just want to see if anyone else has had the same niggles with their 500.

The car is my wifes 1.2 Sport. The faults are annoying but nothing major.

1. The stereo has stopped letting us into the main menu and it no longer displays song names etc both of which get displayed on the speedo \ rev counter. Any ideas how to fix this myself. The last time the garage did it but it happened again within a few days.

2. The car was registered 1st April 08 and is cleaned and cared for every week with wash and polish etc, but strangely enough the fog light surrounds are rusting which is pretty poor for such a new car.

It's also had the common faults before like the fuel breather and currently the rear wash doesn't work.

My wife loves the car, but to be honest I'm not a fan. It looks funky and is well speced but I find it way too slow, no where near as econimical as the figures suggest and handles worse than her old VW Bug.

Disappointing really as I pretty muched talked her into getting it. Thinking of selling it and my VXR to get something a bit more special between us.

Any ideas of what price I should look for?

It's 1.2 Sport in white, with the 16" Multispokes, 22K, Brand New Tyres, FFSH, Rear Head Rests, Black Stripe up the side. Mint condition other than the faults above but booked into the dealer next week for second service, and the faults fixed under warranty.

Parkers and Glass's give rough guides to what it should sell for, but AutoTrader is better for actual values

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/search/...riceasc/engine-size-cars/1l_to_1-3l?logcode=s

They seem to start at £8,600 and go up ... there are 12 cars under £9k, and 31 under 10k.

Well having told us all it's faulty I'd say about tuppence & a toffe apple.

Sometimes, when a car has a number of problems in a row - it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth, and you cant wait to get rid of it.

I remember my MK4 Golf - absolute nightmare, one thing, and then another. Vectra was worse still.

The car is still under warranty, and should therefore be ok to sell.

Stop being a primadonna and just get the car sorted.

Yes, I thought they were fitted into plastic (fogs).
And the other niggles really are very small and easily fixable, and fewer than you'd get on many cars.

I'd be inclined to hang on if your wife likes it and change to either the new 95 Diesel, with fantastic economy, or even wait for the twin cylinder engine, which again will have both performance and very low consumption. Both will come with the softer rear axle.

Hopefully the faults will all be fixed next week as Fiat has agreed to get them sorted under warrantly, book price for the mileage as a priate sale on parkers is Just under 8K.

But when you look in my area (Ayrshire, Scotland) on Autotrader, Pistonheads, RoadRecord etc there are very few for sale and most are pops and they are looking for 8K.

I thought 8K would have been more realistic for what we're selling. Only loosing £1800 from new isn't too bad for almost a 2 year old car. Obviously the more the better and if we hold off a few weeks it will go with a full years tax.

Anyone else bought one second hand? What did you pay?

Stereo, B&M is a windows mobile system so I'd expect some problems from time to time. This will be EASILY sorted.

Foglight surrounds rusting?

The foglight surrounds are plastic!

Fuel breather isn't a common fault and tbh neither is the rear washer, sounds like you probably didn't have a strong enough washer mix tbh.

On 16" rims you won't get the book figures as these were done on much narrower tyres on 14" rims. Handling, it's only a small car, a Beetle is much bigger.

Get a Cross, I had a petrol and you wouldn't like it. I'd have a Cross, not sure what colour though. Maybe orange.
Part of me prefers the Panda on stilts look of the 1.2 to the slightly chunkier Cross though. I wanted the 14" 4x4 wheels as winter wheels but couldn't find any :(
