Technical Front Strut Brace

Technical Front Strut Brace

The strut brace is on & I've been for a drive along my favorite 'test road'.

Much to my surprise there is an effect on the cars handling.

The front end feels to be gripping better than before when accelerating through medium speed bends, be car breaks straighter when braking VERY hard on eneven road surfaces, initial turn in is marginally better.

Also, there is one corner where it's a fast seeping left hander that is very uneven with many small ruts & undulations where previously the car felt like the front end was struggling for lateral grip, almost as if the wheels were skipping across the surface, now it feels far more controlled, it feels as if the skipping has been eliminated.

The only downside is the ground clearance is reduced marginally (30mm) so a little extra care will be required.

As a summary, if you are lkike 90% of 500 owners who have the car as an every day driver & it's "just a runaround" don't bother, but if you enjoy driving in a sprited manner occasionally, there is a difference, so it's worth considering.

Hi Mark - Replying late to this thread afraid because i have been abroad for work again.
Its nice at last to have someone else who has fitted a lower strut brace on the forum who people take note of(y). I posted about the benifits of fitting one 2 years ago and was treated like I was talking out my backside.

Yes, but Mark said the difference was hardly night and day and that it scrapes on the higher bumps. For someone who's going to take the car on the track it's probably worth it but for those who aren't I don't really see the point.

I think there are certain people who are very suggestible when it comes to "improvements" to their cars and whilst there is obviously good science behind using chassis bracing the benefits on a modern car aren't as clearcut as say on cars from the 80's or 90's. Also made me think of this thread -> https://www.fiatforum.com/500/216508-slick-50-not-slick-50-question.html?p=2308093

Quite frankly you don't know what you're on about when it comes to talking about me.

I'm currently buying up bits to renew all the steering and suspension bits in the wifes Subaru as well as a good chunk of the brakes. Am I going to Subaru like a scared n00b and buying genuine bits whilst paying 10x what I could elsewhere. I've bought bits which will need to be modified to go on the car as they're made for the Impreza, I've bought some poly upgraded bushes and some rather nice alloy droplinks to replace the flimsy plastic ones which comes with the car so it's pretty obvious that I'm not averse to modifying a car if there is a gain to be made or an inherent weakness. Heck I'm even planning to get dampers for a GD impreza which is a good 10 years newer than the wifes car and requires different top spring perches, springs and loads of other bits to fit.

So don't try and paint me as some sort of timid person who doesn't understand the implications of modifications or is too "scared" to modify a car because I think the car will throw me off the road if I have harder bushes or something.

He's allowed an opinion and can comment if he wants to. He's not flamed anyone as far as I can see, and if you feel you've been hard done by or insulted, report the post instead of retorting to trying to tell other members when they can and can't post.

Use your forum 'Ignore' option, works for me perfectly :yum:. The one thing that will annoy a forum troll more than ANYTHING else in the world is being ignored :D

Forum trolls will do everything possible to keep their post count high and thats all they care about.

I've met similar people on other car forums and they play the 'rules' game very well, only solution is to ignore them. Reminds me of that saying ... "never argue with an idiot as they will just lower you to their level and beat you with experience"

There are plenty of very helpful people on car forums, just gotta try and keep hold of them long enough before they get hacked off by other members
