The oil light is flashing and a message on the screen to change the engine oil, thats fine but it was only changed 4800 miles ago i dont do short trips in it, i do about 30 miles motorway driving everyday. This cant be right can it? Help please.

I have to add a litre of oil about every 2000 miles*. Check the levels, if it needs some, give it some.

* But then I drive it hard ;)

i will check the oil in the morning, but if it does need topping up the message on the screen will still be there wont it? if the oil is ok have you any other thoughts on why this is happening so soon after its oil change.
thanks

You mean to say you don't check your oil level........

Who changed it?
Did they reset the oil degradation counter (not the service reminder)?
How old is it? Has it had the ECU update for the DPF in the past?

Its a multijet, it had a low milage service at 10000 miles just before i bought it, its now on 14800 miles, i checked the oil about 200 miles ago and it was ok, i dont know if it had updates or anything.

As D4nny8oy has indicated, it is not a low oil level warning but the one that tells you the oil needs changing, mainly due due to the number of regeneration cycles that have been carried out since the last oil change.

There was another poster who had the same problem and it turned out that the garage had only reset the service reminder so you may be fortunate like him. The garage will be able to tell if this is the case and from the type of driving you do I think that this is probably the case. (y)

But 4800 miles doesnt seem right does it?

The last time I got the warning light/message was only 2200 miles after the previous oil change. I was lucky that Fiat Customer Relations told the dealer not to charge me though. They are currently looking into my case as my car tends to run regeneration cycles almost daily, it did two last Saturday, both on the same trip on dual carriageway/motorway at 70mph within 20miles of each other. Do ask your dealer to check if it has had the diesel parameter updates as previously mentioned.

But if they didn't reset the oil degradation counter on this or the first service, the engine doesn't know it's had an oil change- so it could be 4800 miles plus the mileage at the last service (14800 miles in total). ;)

If you had the low mileage service and didn't get the oil changed then its likely due now. My low mileage service didnt Include an oil change I had to ask specifally

Oil level is fine, and yes the oil was changed on the service at 10000miles.

Jaimie, the point that is trying to be made here to help you is that although the oil was changed the ECU has no way of knowing this unless the tech ALSO reset the degredation counter using the examiner. It might possibly be that this was overlooked and just the service schedule reset instead (you can check that part in the menu system on the dash).

Check with the dealership to make sure this was actually carried out as the warning light might be just a false positive.

Also, we get a lot of valuable help here from techs and it is frustrating for them when they try to help but questions they have already answered keep getting repeated and this could possibly mean that they will not be so willing to help in the future.

If you don't quite understand what is being explained (which is quite understandable) try to ask for an explanation of the answer instead.

thanks i do understand what is being said, i checked the service indicator in the menu and it said 13850 miles, does this mean until next service?
