I have a new 500 Multijet that has now done about 350 miles and I am only getting 62 mpg on a long motorway run. Is this becasue the car is new i.e will it get better as it wears in abit or should I contact the dealer

Yes the car needs to be run in so it can loosen up before it actually starts giving decent economy.

62mpg is fine, especially at the moment.

It will do over 70 mpg - at 60 mph, with no wind, when it's not cold (i.e. over about 10*C) - once it has 10k on the clock.

Yes, that's not a bad figure at all for a motorway run in a still tight car; it will improve, but you'd need the new Multijet2 to get over 70.

Jesus, my average is way better than that, and I'm not exactly the most sympathetic of drivers when the mood takes me.
Yeah that's pretty bad isn't it? Even with my wife using the 500 on uber-short journeys like a mile or so at the moment it's still keeping itself just above 40.

im worried about my fuel economy on my multijet, its done 14000 miles and i just about get 380miles out of a full tank, car seems to be running fine so whats up with it?

You're probably not filling it up to the brim and probably not running it anywhere near dry.

I get about 50 mpg on my 1.2, not as impressive as the almost 50 mpg I can get out of my S-Max but I'm still happy with that! Personally I don't think the extra mpg of the diesel is worth it what with the joys of a DPF.

I have a 1.2 and only manage 40mpg around town...should it not be more than this?

by the way the car only has 70 miles on the clock.

Thanks

In cold weather and doing short journeys around town you're only going to get about 40 or so.

thanks guys :)

what can expect when the engine has run in and it is not blistering cold?
I would say a few more mpg on top. I got close to 50 mpg yesterday in the cold on a nice long journey and with 4 people in the back though to be fair I was going a bit slow with the conditions and all.
