have you checked the oil level? could be that its low on oil. i always check mine, not worth knackering the engine for the sake of a couple of minutes every week.

Is it a diesel with a DPF?

You can change the oil and filter yourself however you will need to use the correct oil ( this is most important for correct dpf operation ) and only fiat can reset the oil degredation counter.

If the counter is not reset but the oil and filter are changed then the lights will remain until the degredation counter is reset, however you may find that your dealer will not reset the counter without proof of you having had the oil and filter change done and the correct parts used, because as i said above this could and will effect the operation of the dpf filter.

many thanks, ill call a fiat dealer then... yes its the diesel.... how long can the light and message be left on? how long can it be driven? wish id of not bothered with a diesel... cheers...

red flashing light means needs immediate action

Rob, Normally that is the case but the flashing oil warning light and accompanying message is the Fiat way of saying the oil needs changing ASAP. In my case I am having mine done on Saturday which will be 8 days after the warning appeared.

Like you, I wanted it one straight away but the dealership originally didn't have any appointments until 17/10/09. I put them on the spot by saying "if anything happens to the engine will it be covered by warranty" and they got me in a week earlier.

AFAIK this system is like the service lights on Beemers which start on orange as a warning and then eventually go to red.

I have to admit that the first time this happened I only saw the oil light flash and my immediate reaction was to pull over to the side of the road pronto.

After checking the oil I then checked the manual.

any ideas on price for a oil/filter change and dash re set? been quoted £99 from 1 dealer....

is that free oil, filter and labour, or just free labour? do you know of these dealers? cheers
I suspect what he means is that you could get the oil change light reset for free. No dealer in their right mind is going to give you anything more than that for free.

i.v been changing my oil and filter on my 2006 doblo, for 10 years now, every 5000 miles ,it purres like a kitten . the only way to reset the 'change engine oil light 'is to get a reset tool. i,v got one. an autel ols 301.resets service and oil light. I know lots of owners who change the oil but just want the light put out ,,also finds any fault codes ,great tool ,never had any problems with my doblo in 10 years of servicing it my self.

Hi guys,

What i was reading about the oil change and all the stories i was wondering, do you guys ever worked on your car yourself ?

I've been working on cars for over 30years now, mostly BMW's and a change of oil and filter is kidsplay i must say.

For the answer how to reset the 500's oillight you do not to buy any hardware, just put the contact(ignition) on (do not start) en within 10seconds you push the accelerator in 3 times and the light is resetted.

Cheers

Hi Colezy, Is you Doblo a diesel and does it have a DPF? If it does you also need to reset the oil degredation counter in the engine ECU. If you don't do this eventually the engine will stop regenerating the DPF and it will clog up. The degredation counter is separate from the service light. Only Fiat specific software can do this reset, not generic OBDII readers. This means a Fiat dealer or dedicated software such as Multiecuscan or AlfaOBD. Some professional garage software will do it as well if they buy the right module. It seems some Fiat dealers don't (didn't?) know about this. The number of degredation resets on my Croma was fewer than the number of oil changes with dealer stamps in the service book
