Ive just got mine today, do they have automatic headlights? Or have i got them on and do they switch off when i turn the engine off? Does that make sense?

By default, DRL's are on as soon as the ignition is on, there are no side lights, just dipped/full beam activated on the indicator stalk, which go off when the keys are removed.

So have i just driven to the shop without my proper lights on?

Ooops! Im going to get my manuals out and have a read!!

The headlights are not automatic, no.

Personally I just drive around with my headlights and DRL's on all the time. It's what I've always done. It's probably not as beneficial in the 500 because it's white but on green such as the 2 others we had it's a lifesaver.

As for the OP, I'd leave your DRL's on. As DraigFlag says they increase your visibility so why would you not want to have them on? People will think they're foglights and flash you but who cares?

Well surely you'd know by the darkness in front of your car as to whether you had your headlights on or not?

Thanks for the quick reply i think i'll leave them on for a while see how i get on, it will warn other cars to get the hell out of the way of my nice new car. :)

Haha im just laughing to myself here, they actually seemed fine u know!

I'll make sure i switch them on in the future...typical blonde!

Can you enhance the lights without going xenon ... I hate xenon! (and I don't have 700 quid)

That will please the already invisible bikers!

I've always felt that objection to DRL's was BS. Firstly there are far more cars on the road than bikes so why make cars less visible? Secondly if bikes have their lights on you'll still see them and thirdly with DRL's bikes will be able to see cars more easily.

fourthly bikes are invariably ridden massively in excess of the prevailing speed of the traffic, so have little sympathy from me when they inevitable hit something travelling more slowely (or more stationary) than themselves.

Bikers don't think so. Think they blame thier stupid driving and crashes on people with DRL's on all the time :p Any excuse hey?!
