My little Bluebelle is still tootling along on her first tank of petrol :D

When do you guys re-fill ...at the moment it is on the last group of three small bars.

Whenever you want really :) I usually fill up when it's on the very last segment or when that's disappeared but you can just leave it to go down to 1/4 or 1/8th of a tank and you'll be fine :)

Before I'm stranded at the side of the road with no petrol usually.

Usually I wait for the warning light then go to a local supermarket where the petrol is of reasonable quality .... I am sure that you have been to one of these places before ?? :)

Funnily enough I just dropped my wife at work and it beeped to warn me it was low so I filled up! Its as if the car knew...

Well I only just got mine and it came with hardly anything in and it beeped at me to say 'low fuel' or whatever it says, so I will just do that everytime. I think this 1.2 is great for fuel as well (y)

when range says

------

only run out once, on track at Donington Park

seriously, if you are going on a long journey or at night make sure you fill up before

and avoid normal supermarket fuel

 I always buy at the supermarket....why is it bad?

Sorry I'm not being dim about filling up..... its just I always understood that its not a good idea to leave it until its very low to refill...and was'nt sure if it was ok to leave it until the last segment to do so.

Thanks everyone ;)

Supermarket petol is pants. Think is something to do with poor additives in the petrol....basically is poor quality. I've only used supermarket petrol in my FTO and the birds Merc 3-4 timesbefore I twigged. The FTO backfired and performance was reduced and the Merc sounded rattley. Fuel consumption on both dropped considerably.

I will NEVER buy supermarket petrol ever again. Not even if its 10p an litre.

I've filled up almost exclusively with supermarket fuel (both petrol and diesel) in all of our household cars for the last thirteen years and have never had a single problem with it.

We've always used supermarket petrol and diesel in our family cars too and haven't had any issues although as we don't regularly fill up anywhere else i couldn't compare the performance to a branded fuel. will keep and eye on what mileage we get in the 500 and if its poor will try somewhere other than Morrisons

My Saab 9-3 Aero loves Tesco 99 ron :slayer:

I will be using the same in the 500, when it eventually arrives

I filled up my 500 on cheap fuel from a supermarket once and noticed a decrease in throttle response and a bad tickover. When starting up in the morning it was also coughing and spluttering badly. I've been running on Shell fuel ever since and I've had no problems.

My wife had an Escort once and filled it up with supermarket fuel and the it spluttered to a stop. Called the AA who said "Did you fill it up with supermarket x fuel? Because we've had quite a few people this weekend already!" the engine was never the same after that.......

Then with the Subaru it was almost empty so we put some of the same supermarket's fuel in just to get it home and within minutes the check engine light came on and it went into a sort of safe mode and had very much reduced power and didn't come on boost properly.

With diesel I don't think it matters quite so much but I'd never put supermarket petrol in unless it's Tesco 99 which is apparently quite a decent fuel.

The wife swears by BP and says that the Subaru gives a smidge more power than when it is running on Shell or any other brand of fuel.

As I said before I wouldn't bother running anything other than 95 RON fuel as AFAIK the 1.2 FIRE doesn't have a knock sensor though I'm sure someone else probably knows otherwise. If you've got a 1.4 then by all means use higher octane fuel.
