Hi everyone,

Anyone been offered a service plan for their Fiat 500? When I went to a dealership for a test drive, I was offered a 3 year plan for £580. (not sure if I can mention the name?!)

The sales person tried to bullsh*t me saying: "the APR is not important" & insisted on quoting a monthly rate :eek: & I promptly walked out (won't buy from someone I can't trust!)

Anyone else know of dealerships that offer a service plan?
 
Cheap compared to what I was offered :p

3 years for £580 is quite a decent price if it includes all of the consumables/parts needed.

I might pop into the dealers tomorrow for a chat but tbh it pissed me off that they tried to charge me more than RRP for less than what i'd get direct from Fiat.

I'm considering just taking it the place the wife takes her Subaru with a boot full of genuine parts and getting them to do it unless of course the Fiat place wants to quote me decently :)

When I picked up mine salesman went through book pack and pointed out service shedule - with my guessestimated average annual milage of 8000 to 9000 my 1st service is 18000 miles so I double checked "are you sure - what about the ones marked (+) in the book" "nah just 18000 miles" so I said "OK see you in 2 years" "yep thats it" was his reply.

So 18000 miles = 2 years give or take - everything else is warranty...ok not brake pads, wipers etc but do these plans cover this?

:idea: I am puting £25 in a dedicated bank account every month to pay for consmables (wipers, brake pads etc) and the 2 year service then 4 year service, anything left over is MINE not theirs! ;)

Your car needs to be service every year OR 18,000 miles whichever comes first. Your salesfool needs to be shot.

Hi, not this one again!

It clearly states (for post Sep 08 1.2 cars) that the service interval is 18K or 2 years whichever is sooner, unless the car has done less than 6K at which it should have a service after 1 year.

This has been verified by a number of people with both their dealers and FIAT CS.

I would however always have an annual oil change irrespective of mileage.(y)

Link? I remember something being said but that it was a bit different than that. The idea that if someone does 7k in a year and doesn't need to service the car until 18k or 2 years is a silly one. Sorry if I'm wrong but I just remember things differently ;)

The forum is searchable, anyone interested should be able to find it if they need?

All limits have to have a finite cut-off point somewhere, silly or not. It's like use by dates on food, which doesn't immediately turn rotten on the stroke of midnight at the use by date!(y)

Well I've tried searching which is why I asked.

I don't see why it should be the case that
If you do under 6k miles in a year it's a low mileage service @ 12 months
If you do 9k miles in a year you get no service at all until 2 years!!!!!! That's 2 years without a trained technician looking over your car...... madness.
If you do 18k miles in a year your car gets service @ 12 months.
 
People seem to be resisting the idea of getting their car serviced regularly as though its somehow a bad thing?

I can't imagine a situation where I don't get the car looked at least once every 6 months?

Can someone explain to me why people are so aggressively defensive about only servicing once every two years?

I can't!

Even the idea of having the same oil in a car for 18,000 miles(30,000km!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) is scary enough for me.

Personally I'd rather buy your car used even though you'll have driven it hard than some persons who has tried to cheap out on maintenance.
 
I think your missing the point that people mare making, not that they should skip services or oil-changes, but what they need to do to comply with the terms of the warranty. This states that the cars have an 18K / 2yr service interval which must be completed by a Fiat dealer or a VAT registered dealer using the Fiat schedule and Fiat parts.

The annual 'check' which is recommended for cars with more than 6K is little more than an oil change anyway and is not required for warranty compliance. It can therefore be done at any local garage (franchised or not), thereby saving some money. Some people have been charged up to £200.00 for this service by their Fiat dealers!

I agree, you should change your oil at least every 12 months, not only the fact that it is a new car!!
Just a quick question, I have spoken to my dealer about fitting an alarm to my very recently ordered 500 pop, he said that they dont fit them at the manafacture stage and it will cost £300 to fit by them after you pick the car up, is this right?

I don't think he's missing the point, he's merely saying that 2 years is far too long a period to go without oil or just a proper checkover of the car even if it does comply with the warranty.

Yes that's correct about the alarm, it's a dealer fit option :)
 
I have got a 3yr service plan with Arnold Clark which cost £349
