If your 2010 is on it's original battery it's overdue for a new one. We've seen original batteries last as little as 6 months, like mine did.

The first thing to think about, is a new battery.
After you've thought about it ............ do it.

There is no substitute for a new battery. You can recharge, do resets, disconnections, testings and performance statistics figures ............ but there's no substitute for a new stop/start battery.

Not cheap, but you won't regret it.
...... and I speak from experience.

Good luck,
Mick.

I have to totally agree with this advice , a few years ago my doblo van started to intermittently not start on some mornings the starter motor turned slow like a flat battery but when the engine did eventually fire if I switched it straight off and restarted it spun like a fully charged battery ,so I did not suspect the battery for one minute but I still went to my local tyre garage and they did the high load current test on the battery and said it was absolutely fine,i continued having the same problem throughout the summer but as winter approached I bought a new battery just to be on the safe side and it cured the problem, that was 3 years ago so it looks like car batteries can develop intermittent faults.

I currently have this failure with my stop/start system it is very frustrating!

I am having problems with getting my car to start I am trying 3/4 times and then having to rev the car to get it started could this be due to the stop/start failure?

Where do you publish each review? ;-) Does the car sulk if it is a bad review?

Ah, good edit, hope the humour was not miss placed. A new battery might help but clean all the earth links, an honest garage could do that in minutes or look about yourself for braided earth wires connecting to metalwork and the engine with reasonable bolts and remove, clean, refit.

Stop start has no bearing on how the car starts, if it requires several attempts to start or is difficult to start, cheapest first option is replace the spark plugs with Iridium (not standard ones ) @ about £30, it should start first time every time.

Failure of Start/Stop is more likely a symptom of the problem, not the cause. There is a long list of things the system checks before it allows S/S to operate, starting with battery voltage. How old is your battery? Is it a S/S type, not a cheap replacement? Charge it overnight and see if that makes a difference.

(Smile)

This still going on, face it folks this is just very poor but part of the Fiat legacy. The battery voltage excuse was just another excuse I proved was an excuse, SS worked on the odd occasion and the occasion was so rare I thought I had a failure somewhere else.

SS on our Golf always works and no matter what she says about pink and cute no Fiat 500 will ever disgrace our drive again. I even banned the Arbarth because of stuff it shares with the common 500.

Disgraceful.

The Start/Stop unavailable warning message has appears on my wife's TwinAir recently as well. The car also jolts/judders really bad in 1st and 2nd gear (kangaroo effect) like is about to stall. After having the car stuck for 3 weeks at the dealer they have failed to identify the cause of the problem. One thing that causes the Start/Stop error is a broken linkage on the clutch pedal. It is a metal part that is welded onto the clutch pedal which is linked to the clutch switch which drives the Start/Stop function. If this linkage is broken the arrows indicating when to shift also stop working. There are a few topics on this forum regarding the broken pedal.

I second that. The clutch peddle linkage broke on my twinair and played havoc. After spending money on a new battery the problem hadn't gone away so booked it in at my local trusted garage and they found the linkage had broken. They also found my slave cylinder leak at the same time. They welded the linkage as they thought it would be stronger than replacing it with a new parmesan cheese one.

Just a Quick Question:) Once the warning lights have come on - will they go off once you've travelled forwards a couple of hundred metres without switching off and restarting.

I only ask because I remember reading somewhere in the dim and distant past (probably about the VW polo) that the ss has to be inactive by law when the car is in reverse as you are deemed to have better control when reversing in carparks etc if the engine doesn't keep kicking in and out.

May explain why its happening but not why its not re-setting properly.
Try replacing the engine to body earth strap. If it happens cornering this may be the cause.

how and when does the s/s work? The only time ive ever noticed is when it hasnt stalled.....
Is it drop the car into neutral and lift clutch?
