Hi all,

I'm new on here. I am getting rid (via scrappage) of my beloved but knackered cinquecento, which I have owned for 10 years and is the only car I've ever had.

I have ordered the Pop 1.2 in Cha cha azure, with brown leather seats, ivory ambiance, electric sunroof, chrome kit and Blue & me.

I don't really want air-con which is the main reason I went for the Pop but does anyone know if air con can be fitted at a later date or is it horribly expensive/impossible? If you were choosing between air-con or blue & me which would you go for?

Is the car very hot without it???

I know people might say go for the Lounge, but its the same car isn't it??

If I get rich I might want to add air con, but more likely I might have to sell it in a year or so and I don't want to get a weird spec that won't sell. What do you think?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

There have been quite a few posts stating that it can't be retro fitted and that it is usually well worth getting. Also, air con is a good selling feature.

I doubt very much that the A/C can be retro-fitted cheaply.

You have gone for a sun roof and leather. I'd ditch the roof at least, and go with A/C. I doubt if a car without A/C will hold its value as well; I'd certainly never buy one. And don't forget, most 500s have it as standard so your car will be rare, but not in a good way.

Leather seats and no A/C in summer? Not good. It will be hot, and you won't be able to de-fug in winter either.

Extra's to a lower spec have little affect on it's used value, it may just help sell it quicker if selling private. If you part exchange it, you will loose all the money pretty much on the extra's you have bought.

I would go lounge to be honest, air con is becoming a must for most people now. Your car must work out more than a lounge with all the options you have added doesn't it.

So given a choice between the Pop with all the previous things PLUS air con, or a lounge but without the sunroof, you reckon the Lounge would keep its value more?

Correct. And as G says, you can easily change the wheels.

Ok, great, I think I'll be going for the Lounge then, and losing the sunroof.

Do you mean the opening sun roof? I'd get a Lounge and stick to the normal glass roof. I've got a standard Lounge and the air con matched with the glass roof is a dream. You really don't need an opening sun roof with air conditioning.

Oh, and I'd definitely pick the a/c over Blue & Me, it's much more useful unless you use your phone for talking a LOT.

i have air con on my 1.2 sport and never used it had it on my last car pug 107 never used it i find it a wast of time and money

I bet most people do: I use mine most of the time for one reason or another. Who wants to be hot in a car, or buffeted by wind and noise with the windows open? And it will maintain the car's value.

Oh-oh, now I'm confused again.
I think I'm going to stick with the Pop - the basic price of the Lounge covers things I really don't want, like the alloys and the split seats.
I like the look of the wheels on the Pop and they don't have those as an option on the Lounge.

I think I'll reluctantly go for the a/c – even though I like it hot.

I think I'll ditch the blue & me (I don't use my phone much , it was more for the USB to play music). And I'll probably just get the fixed glass roof which is 300 instead of 550 for the opening roof, it all brings the price down a bit.

Well – I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure!!

You've not once on a really hot day thought about turning it on? Really strange! Seriously though I've done comparisons between A/C on and off in other cars I've had and not noticed any appreciable difference in economy in most of them, I've not yet done this on the Fiat as I don't often get to drive it! I guess it could be more affected than others though is it is a 1.2.

Our Mondeo estate was a 2 litre petrol and the climate control stayed on all year round as it made no difference to the overall economy at all. Ditto on my S-Max 1.8 diesel. I had a 1.6 Zafira with manual A/C and that made less than 1 mpg difference, the worst was a 2.0 petrol Peugeot 406 which was just over 1 mpg and that was quite thirsty anyway. My Peugeot 306 was a 1.4 petrol and whilst it made no difference with regard to economy, but there was a noticeable drop in acceleration. I never checked my Cavalier but the A/C stopped working for the last month or so that I owned it and boy did I miss it.

When we got the 500 my criteria were alloy wheels, air conditioning and not yellow, although to be honest I'm glad we didn't get a Pop with the extras now. One thing I don't understand is why anyone would specify an opening sunroof on a lounge as it seems to be the same price as on a Pop or Sport? Also I personally wouldn't have specified the fixed sunroof on our sport as for only another £150 it could have been an opening one!
