My friends car at the same garage would have been £218 for his 1.4

Shouldent be any more than this as it covers up to 18,000 miles, unless your dealer has higher labour rates.

On fiat menu pricing the first service for the 1.2 is £234.15 with air con and £202.50 without and the 1.4 is £214.60 with aircon and £182.95 without. Very strange like i work in a fiat dealership it's doen to the parts cost. It's the same service sheet used for both.

Parts might be the same, but I'm sure the tappets are checked on the 1.2 which helps bump up the price with the labour aspect.

My 1.4 had it's 1st service on Friday, total cost £203.00.

Seems a lot, only in 2005 my 1.2 Panda was £120.

Is everybody going to their Fiat dealer for their service or is anyonethinking of taking their 500 to a Local garage(as long as they use Fiat parts)?? Does it make much difference if the service book isnt filled in by fiat when and if you end up selling the car?? Just asking as since buying Bibi our income has drastically reduced and money is extremely tight!! In fact the question has been posed as to whether She might have to goanother reason why I have been lurking rather than posting

My local Citroen dealer has a service department which will do anything, at a very fair price, and well. You would probably have to get the Fiat filters to maintain the warranty, but in a new car what else is there?

OK, software updates I suppose

Actually on a simple service you probably wouldn't save much and I'd recommend sticking with the dealer.

Ouch. Not got my 500 yet but expected servicing to be around the 180-200 mark not 250-300. Anyway that is some way off for now, but I did wonder if there were any indies about who do a good if not better job. I then found some dealers who deal in servicing only on the Fiat website and these appear to be cheaper than the posh showroom counterparts who have new car sales dept too.

Look at the fiat website and see if any of the service only delaers are near you. It's worth a try at least.

slimgimli - love the yellow 500 you have. Do not see many around here but defo looks good and suits the car's cheeky styling.

good to hear white500 as this is where ill be taking mine. I would normally go to Barratts in Worksop but as the 500 has so much software driven stuff on it, while the warranty is current Im going to go the the dealership.

I had the first service last week on our 500 1.2, it was £190.43.

No advisories, everything was tickerty-boo.

I am NOT looking forward to September then. I thought about £150 max, same as my Ford's have cost for first service. Am shocked by figures of £200-250. I've only done 3,700 miles in 5 months so I'll only be on about 8,000 when I take it for service...........seems alot of money for a small service when some taking them in have done 10,000 more miles than me. Hubbie is NOT going to be happy. The discount in the tax disc cost will get eaten up in the service costs

I just spoke to Nottingham Sandicliffe and for a 1.3Mj with aircon its £180 for the first service.

The dealer that's selling me my Fiat has a fixed price board - 1st service for the 1.2 is £126 and second is a whopping £371. I don't understand the variance in prices - surely the first service is just an oil change and a check-over?

This happens soooo often. The tax disc is just one cost component of motoring. Fiat servicing seems to be expensive, but then this is where the dealers make their money. The initial cost of the vehicle is very competitive.

I expect that when all the initial costs; the depreciations, the discounts, the service charges and the residuals are accounted for, all cars, in any particular category, cost pretty much the same overall.

However, I have two friends with Mercs they coincidentally bought in 1985, and both are driving these same cars. They have been very reliable too. Now cost the amount paid by someone buying a new car every three or four years over the same period into the equation, with the concomitant losses, and work out which is the cheaper motoring...

same goes for lots of things. I have met someone who changes her sofas every three years, yet I slop around on the one my great, great grandfather bought in 1881: it was recovered in 1963 and is still just fine. My slopping around turns out cheaper...

Change a sofa every 3 years?! Blimey there's someone with money to burn obviously. Our sofas are 10 years old and are still going strong .... cream leather which I just wash over every month with some soap and water!

You are probably right about the costs even-ing out on the 500 against say a KA over the years. I was just surprised at the cost of the servicing to be honest, I suppose there is alot of technology in the 500 to check though so perhaps that's why it's higher?

If I understand things correctly, the Fiat dealers offer different price for low mileage cars (under 9000 miles). Mine will charge £175 instead of £250, so not bad. Ask them first...
