Angry Windscreen wiper judder

Anyone else got this on their 500? Mine is terrible, it jumps across the windscreen on the way down, I'm going to try cleaning it with white vinegar and newspaper now, but I'm wondering if it's a common problem on the 500 or if it's just me?

Could it be because I'm using AutoGlym Glass Polish on them? Because if so, then it's a terrible product.

Mine do it too, yes it is very annoying and I wonder if its because they use the new type of blades which are all bendy? Tried cleaning them and the glass and no different. It wont be the autoglym stuff, thats good.

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

Does this happen when you're driving, at a standstill, or both?

Also assuming you're trying this out when the windscreen is wet

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

I've tried using white vinegar scrubbed with newspaper, and they're still juddering. I've noticed its actually on the way up, not the way down. I've tested when totally soaked, when dry, when slightly wet, when parked, moving, everything. The only time they don't judder is when I spray them with washer fluid. They last without juddering for about 2 minutes after that, then go back to jumping across the screen.

Someone suggested coating the windscreen with tyre blackener, it fixes the judder but leaves a haze over the windscreen. Which seems a waste of time.

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

these new flat blades suffer from it in my experience, company car Vauxhall Zafira does it too.

Use screenwash - acts as a lubricant and it helps.

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

I have had intermittent judder after long journeys when road grime/oil etc gets on the screen.

I clean my screen with Mr Muscle Glass cleaner spray (The green liquid one). It cleans all the smeary stuff off the glass and the judder goes. If I use any other brand such as Windolene or Supermarket Own Label it does not seem strong enough to remove the grime.

Give it a go and see if it helps.

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

Mine is just the same, despite thorough cleaning & wipedown with IPA to remove any contaminants.

Always puzzles me that manufacturers have made staggering progress in car development, but wipers in general are still cr@p.

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

try twisting the arm so that the blade is at a different angle to the screen...

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

very heavily diluted apple juice! Try it try it try ittttt

Had exactly the same problem with my GP.

Bought brand new blades and within 1 week (despite cleaning the screen) they were juddering and smearing.

Randomly thought "hmm apple juice = very weak acid", tried it and juddering/smearing stoppped

Has to be very very concentrated, like 95% water 5% apple juice.

Vinegar is too strong.

Couldn't say I agree with the flat or 'aerotwin' wiper complaint. I had them on my new smart fortwo and they were the quietest wipers ever. also on the Merc A Class they used to give me during services.

My partner has them retro-fitted to his Volvo S40 and they work an absolute treat.

My personal experience is that older style wipers judder and 'squeak' far more. Perhaps then it is a 500 thing?!? My dad's MG ZS has a permanent 'squeal' with its wipers - and he's X4 new blades, one new windscreen and many, many different cleaning products down the line.

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

I had this problem at the beggining but since I'd stopped using car shampoo on windscrean (Autoglym) the juddering has stopped. I clean with lots of clean water, sponge and patience.

Re: Windscreen wiper judder

I changed to VW wipers when my fiat wiper broke and it seemed to be a lot better

On the other hand it was from LHD car so the blade was on the wrong way round, LOL
