DRLs, what a pain!

Im leaving these on at all times as I quite like the look, but what a nightmare! Loads of people flash and some point, obviously they think they are fogs, a bloke at work asked me why he keeps seeing 500s with their fogs on.

However today, whilst approaching a side road a milk float pulled out in front and we very nearly collided, I of course looked at him in disgust and he said I had my indicator on to turn left... it was a DRL he saw Maybe this "safety" feature isnt?

Nooooooo.

These prats on the road just need educating. But I can see why some people thing they're fog's, but if the ignorant knew what they were on about then they would know that to have front fogs on a car switched on you'd also need the parking/side lights.

Keep them on. People don't say that to Volvo or Audi drivers. Half of these people probably don't even know that some people drive towards them with their front fogs on, as they're incorperated into the main headlamp unit on some cars.

As the 500 becomes more common, people will get used to them

When ever I've seen a 500 with them on I think, 'cor, they really do their job well '

Jon.

Same here, you certainly know they are there with them on. I leave mine on due to me going on the motorway everyday + they look cool when they are on!!!

I like them - I'm also an everyday motorway user (M42/M5) & I agree - they do their job.

What do they look like on the 500? Are the just sidelights or are they LEDs?

they are brighter than the sidelights but not as bright as the main beam tried them last night and wasn't impressed the main lights go on and off with the ignition so you are as well leaving them on all the time. i have niether switched on . unless its dark

Last night? They are Daytime Running Lights/Lamps, they are not for driving at night!! On Fiats the lights never work when the ignition is off thats how they always have been but they do have parking lights!

Re: DRLs, what a pain!

Waiting in the car today a guy parked opposite told me that i'd left my lights on. I explained they were daylight lights. He seemed confused.

I got the book out and i found out how to turn them off. I think they will go back on when its November time.

When i was up in Lake Garda last summer everyone on the main roads had their side lights on. I guess its the law or something over there.

Just one question, do they drain the batteries lots?

Nope, cos they aren't on when only the battery is supplying.

Re: DRLs, what a pain!

Forthcoming European directive will make DRL's compulsory (from 2010 I think?). You will notice Audi's and BMW's with them in some instances as you can change the set up in the MMI/I-drive system in preperation.
