Re: Why is my new 500 pre-reg?

Thanks everyone for your input.

Today I have sorted the Pre-reg question. It was only something i needed to say to the 7 Day Insurance company, 'cos the insurance is normally for new nissans at the same garage, they would'nt cover new fiats. So the car is New and I will be the FIRST and only owner. So thats a weight off my mind.

As for the wrong car reg. It turns out that the system for dealing with reg. plates with the DVLA had changed and become computerised. So the car was just assigned a random reg. The reg. i chose on the day of ordering is now on some random car somewhere in the UK. So I can't have it.
It had changed from ending in 'GUD' to ending in 'YAK'.

I have told the sales girl (who has been really helpful, friendly and honest thru-out) that I will have to reject the car as i cant have the reg i have chosen, unless they can offer me something to forget/feel better about this whole wrong reg. saga.

Am i being petty?
They will have difficulty selling the car because it is so customised. I dont want to get the sales girl in the s**t 'cos she has been great. But at the same time am i being a 'mug' if i just lay down and take this?
Also i dont want any bad blood with the guys who will be dealing with any problems i have with my car over the length of the warranty.

HELP!

Ummmmmm how do I put this YES , let me get this right.....you've ordered a new 500 which you've been waiting ages for and have now rejected it because of a random number plate . If your that fussed about a number then go to the DVLA web site & buy a reg number.

Sorry to be blunt but there are an awful lot of people on here who for what ever reasons have had genuine reasons to be upset with fiat or the dealership. Is your's a genuine reason or perhaps a lever for a little more discount/freebies .

All you might of done is send the "helpful" sales girl home n unhappy....& why over a random number plate .

Re: Why is my new 500 pre-reg?

When I bought mine the dealer gave me a list of about 50 registrations I could choose from. I ended up with the one I chose which was handy as the 7 day insurance I arranged with NU required me to give them the registration of the car to be covered.
Honestly though, none of them meant anything in particular to me so my advice to you would be that unless GUD were your initials or related to anything important I would not go through all the hassle.
As you have said, the sales person was helpful, friendly and honest so let this go and prepare to enjoy your 500.

Can you reject a car purely because of the number plate?

Re: Why is my new 500 pre-reg?

I think my problem is that i can be a real 'stick-in-the-mud'. When i get an idea in my head i dont like the image to change.
This really is a small issue if i think about, some of the s**t some people have had to deal with on the forum out weighs mine in everywhere.

I'm waiting for the girl to phone me back, once she is finished with a customer. And i'll let her know that i'll just have to deal with the new reg. and change that image in my mind. I am a little disappointed, but in the grand scheme of things, i guess i can cope.

Cheers for your help.

All sorted now and i'm going to keep the 'YUK', its got a little story attached to it now.

Have I missed something here? I've not been given any choice of registrations - or do they wait to do that until the car is ready to ship - assume they don't know if mine going to be an 08 or a 58 yet anyway? I don't really care what reg I have but if I'm missing out on a choice......... assume you used Westover Fiat too?

As regards rejecting the car cus of the number plate - I'd love to have my 500 parked in my driveway right now and unless the numberplate was something offensive I wouldn't reject it, no. I wouldn't wait more months just to get a different reg of my choosing.

Re: Why is my new 500 pre-reg?

I didn't get any choice of registration, to be honest, it's no biggie in the grand scheme of things.

Is it YAK or YUK? there is a Ford Focus in the car park at work and it has a number plate something like SH51 ITE or something like that and it always makes me chuckle as it looks like 's h i t e' (quite literally).

Don't let this spoil your excitement, you are getting your car!

Oh my GUD, I can't believe it, sorry, couldn't resist

I doubt very much that the system has changed, they've probably mucked something up and tried to fob you off as certain plates are on registered in the same area (first 2 letters) so it's more than probably on another car they've sold

Have a moan and get some more freebies thrown in

Then get a £250 personalised plate from the DVLA with 500 in it somewhere

Jon.

Heidi, When a dealer has a lot of cars to register they apply for a batch of registration numbers which are then allocated to the cars , in no particular order. Some dealers might offer you the chance to choose a number from this list, others might not even think about it. If you ask (as I did) if you can pick a reg from the ones thet have been allocated I am sure that they will oblige. You never know there might be something relevant to you but probably not.

No, I used an online broker and the best deal that I got meant buying it from a Fiat dealer in Essex.

Re: Why is my new 500 pre-reg?

You could have had a pre reg one from a car supermarket for near enough 2k off list price, so I felt sympathy for you then, but its not pre reg after all and if your number plate is the only gripe Id say ask for freebies then forget it and enjoy your wee car.

I keep seeing one with a reg ending S O D.
That makes me chuckle.

You've done 35 miles in it, it has currently got 35 miles on the clock, or it had 35 miles when you collected it

A dealership can't legally sell a car as new if it has over 20 miles on the clock! You know the phrase 'you loose thousands as soon as you drive it off of the forecourt'? Well technically its when you turn 20 miles.

Jon.

Mine had 30 miles on it when I picked it up, and it was definitely new, cos I was allowed to pick my reg number from a list!
