Roof Rack for the 500 Lounge

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I are just about to buy a 500 Lounge, but we have hit a stumbling block!

We go Kayaking and need to be able to put a roof rack on top of the car, but due to the lounge having a glass roof panel on the front we cant seem to find one to fit!

Does anyone know of anywhere I can get a roof rack for it?

welcome abaord! Ive no idea about roof racks, but isnt a kyak just a bit too long for a little 500 roof?

Can't answer your question with any knowledge of roof racks but my gut reaction would be to say don't do it. I wouldn't imagine Fiat would recommend it.....

The Kayaks are not heavy, they are a mere 17kg each, I'm sure the roof will be more than capable of it. We only carry them on the car for a few miles, if we go any further we stick them in our trusty old VW Camper

I just want the option of being able to use it if I want to.

Mind you, how cool would it look with kayaks on the roof

The annoying thing is the salesman said they were an optional extra, until we agreed to buy and then they said they dont do them!

I need one too. In the instruction manual (at least the Dutch version) you can see pictures how to mount a roof rack. But for sale????? Not to be found for a Lounge.

Yes, those will fit the Pop and Sport, but the lounge has the glass front half. i spoke to this company this morning, they are meant to be getting back to me but havent heard yet.

I'll try them again in the morning and let you all know.

Just phoned Thule, they do not make roofracks to fit the lounge!

If Thule aren't doing them then i doubt anyone else will - there is obviously something structurally around the glass roof section that doesn't allow sufficient load to be placed at the roof edges/top of A pillars.

Maybe you have to rethink to a Sport model ?

I think I found a thread somewhere here about this, and it said that ANY roof racks can't be fitted to the lounge 'cos of its glass roof. Either forget about kayaking or the Launge...

Id change your order to a Sport...

Ive been told the any 500 with the glass roof will not support roof rack's something to do with the load bearing abilities??

but fret not you have 4 weeks roughly from order date to change the spec of your car! so i would do as the other guys and gals say and get the sport...

On the Lounges, has anyone else noticed the little "dings" in the rear of the roof just in front of the tailgate either side of the aeriel... apparently there is a strengthening bar welded in there to make up for the glass roof. So it follows that the glass wont take a roofrack at all, I wouldnt chance it.
