Prices gone up £200 but I bought one at old price! Phew!

Two days ago, I went in for a nosey about buying a new 500 but the lack of discounts and 16 week wait was putting me off. Managed to agree an acceptable value for my p/x though at least.

I went back to the Fiat garage today having been umming and ahhing over buying a 500 for 48 hours and not really wanting to wait 16 weeks for the spec I wanted... anyway as soon as I walked in the door they said "Bad news, the prices have gone up £200 today". The dealer said they didnt even know the prices were going up and it hasnt gone through to the fiat website yet.

Well, that was about to be the end of my yearning for a 500... no discounts AND a price increase to rub salt in the wounds! Anyway, seeing I was about to walk away, the manager said "Let him have one at the old price - he came in 2 days ago and i'm not having customers walking out when WE didnt even know the prices were going up".

So, I have had to compromise for a 1.4 when I wanted a 1.3, but i've bought a 1.4 Sport in crossover black, 16" O spokes, chrome kit and mirrors, side rubbing strip with 500 logo, and split rear seat with headrests. Apart from the engine, its the exact spec I wanted and its in the country so I should get it in 3 weeks! Anyway, i'm sure i'll be glad I got the 1.4 once i've driven it!

Bad news for those of you that havent already bought one though if its true about the price increase...

Still can't believe i've bought a new car without a discount AND it's a Fiat!

What with the desirability of the car and the fact that increasing steel, plastics and energy prices are impacting on production costs this is hardly surprising.

Pretty much everything that is made will soon rise in price because manufacturers can't absorb the production costs forever.

Still showing £ 7,905 for 1.2 Pop on Fiats website. Perhaps the £ 200 was a sales technique.

I'm not back into work until Tuesday so don't know if anything has been announced by Fiat today, but as of 6pm yesterday when I finished there had been no price increases announced.

Fiat always announce price changes to their dealerships weeks before they take effect, so I'm almost certain your dealership is talking cr@p koksy

Unless The Beast can confirm before Tuesday I'll check when I'm back to work.

almost certainly a sales ploy... has to be?

If it turns out to be I would go back and cancel your order, as I wouldnt buy from someone who will lie on such a fundermental seeing as it will be in the public domain...

I rang round this morno when it was slack at work, and there's no price increase.

Name and shame the dealer hun they deserve it.
Then order from somewhere else.

Whilst I was waiting for mine to arrive I was demonstratiing to a friend on the Fiat website how to configure a car and low and behold I found there had been a price increase .... by £5. Daylight robbery

Mine had originally been £12220 and was now £12225.

Re: Prices gone up £200 but I bought one at old price! Phew!

Doesnt really matter as I was going to buy one anyway and I've already paid my deposit and it's not like I would have got a discount or anything.... Why would they say that though? I mean it's not like it's the end of the month (and they haven't met their targets), and they already knew I wasn't interested in any of their stock cars and that I had the money in the bank waiting... it wasn't like "we can only do you this price for today"... I mean thats the sort of thing that gets said when discounts are involved...

When I arrived at the dealership, I was looking at the 500s outside and one of the assistants bought a 1.3 lounge round. Having not seen it before, I asked how much it was and he said "It's 10 something but i'll have to check cos theyve all gone up £200 this morning".

I then went inside to the other assistant who was dealing with me 2 days previous and I said "So they've all gone up £200 have they?" and he said "unfortunatley yes" and I said "well there's no way I would buy one now. They are expensive enough as it is". What I assume was the manager then piped up "Do it at the old price... i'm not losing a customer when we didnt know they were going up".

So we had a look on the system and there was just the one car in the exact spec I wanted except 1.4 instead of 1.3 so i jumped at the chance to avoid a 16 week wait.
