These people claim to have a yellow 1.4 sport for £8999 but I remember reading somewhere that someone phoned them and they didn't know anything about having any 500s.

Best chance is to ask for free mats, petrol etc rather than a discount on the car

With only 4500 allocated for the UK for 2008 I don't think you have much chance of a deal from a dealer. When I was looking for mine I tried Broadspeed and got offered £400 off price. I also tried www.autobid.com and they got me £588.00 off which included their fee of £100 + vat so actually £470.00 discount. This was discount off of the extras as well as the retail price.

The reason I don't think you will get a discount is because Broadspeed rang me a week after I enquired and asked if I still wanted to buy the car. I had already clicked on the link to the discount deal and now the car was at the full £12220 price inclusive. I said "what's happened to the discount" and was told that due to high demand the Fiat dealers had stopped offering them any discount. I asked them why I should buy a 500 from them at full price when I can go to my local dealer and get one for same money. They couldn't answer that one.

Anyway, bought mine through autoebid and collected it on Saturday from Fiat dealer and loving it to bits.

So what you're saying is that the 2,500 additional people that ordered cars before the end of March (Fiat had taken circa 7,000 orders by then) and every single person that orders one for the remaining 8 months of the year won't be getting one?

That's what I was told. I suppose it all depends on who is telling the story and their motivation. I know when I picked mine up there were several in the showroom for sale which would seem to suggest that maybe stock wasn't as limited as I was told.

Also, the removal of the discounts indicated that there would be a shortfall in expected numbers. Perhaps production has now been ramped up, after all if you believe the newspapers, a lot of skilled Polish workers are returning home, disillusioned with the state of our country.

As an aside, whilst I was at the dealership, they were also having the showroom split into two, one half for standard models and the other half for Abarth so looks like that little beast might be appearing soon.
