My 500 is poorly sick

So yesterday I'm driving to a friends house when I notice a huge smell of burning just as I am turning in her road. Stop, get out, the engine is making a huge hissing noise. I open the bonnet there is water pouring out everywhere from the radiator somewhere.

Call the AA out, really helpful guy, he thinks he's found the leak so bungs it up to let me get to the garage today but reminds me to check the water level this morning. I do and its completely empty again!

Fill it up and limp to the garage and its currently being looked at......The only good side is they have lent me a 1.3MJT 500 and its awesome! I don't want to give it back, so much more power then my 1.2.....regret getting it now!

So, was it just a hose or broken radiator? Hope she didnt overheat for too long either.
Of course its worth the extra £1400 for a diesel, easily

Someone somewhere on ff worked out it was only worth getting a new Diesel if you do over 23000 miles a year, not even I do that, and I do over 16000 a year.

I would think of getting Diesel if getting a new car with I could also get with an auto box.

Re: My 500 is poorly sick

Yeah, but I only bought the diesel because its faster and sounds good, nothing to do with economy etc... so £1400 was well worth it

Re: My 500 is poorly sick

Well have spoken to the garage and they are fitting a new thermostat. Sounds a bit strange to me, why would a broken thermostat cause water to gush out???

Re: My 500 is poorly sick

i thought the 500's, being based on the panda platform, were supposed to be more reliable than to suffer something as old-school as this!!

because it overheats if thermostat is stuck and the water will bubble out

Re: My 500 is poorly sick

If it was overheating surely the temperature gauge would have risen? It never moved.....

That was probably caused by the water being sucked into other parts of the cooling system when it was cooling through a vaccume or something? I've had similar in the Panda before. It's almost like magic.

Didn't think 500's had temp guages, I thought alot of new cars only now have a red temp light that comes on? It annoys me as I like to see exactly what temp my engine is at!
