Q about Lights and Air Con!

I have had my 500 now for 2 months and everything is fine apart from a few things.

1, Does it have side lights?! in all my old cars when its raining i have put my side lights on but in the 500, i only seem to have normal lights(when i turn the thing at the end of the stalk) and full beam (when i push the stalk back)

2, When i have my air con on and i am stopped say at traffic lights or something, the engine seems to judder like its going to cut out, it has never actually cut out and only does it when the air con is turned on? anyone else get this?

3, I have blue&me and play music through a USB stick, recently it has started to stop working randomly on a journey, it usually comes back when i take the USB stick out and plug it back in, is this a usb problem or a problem with the blue&me?

Re: Q about Lights and Air Con!

There are "sidelights", but they are really parking lights. They turn on only when the ignition is off and the light stalk is in the on position. If you do not wish to use dipped beams in the wet (and I really think you should), then the daylight running lights can serve instead.

Re: Q about Lights and Air Con!

Fiats havent had sidelights for years, always dim dip headlamps. The DRLs arent really suitable for wet weather or reduced visibility on their own, as the rear lights dont come on with DRLs only.
As for your air con, when the compressor is working it saps power from the engine... if you have other electrical items working it can make the idle speed drop, but it shouldnt really judder as you say and nearly stop.
Try asking about the blue and me in the blue and me section, its rocket science to me

Do fit still do the dim dip thing? Blime. lol.

As mentioned DRL are no where near good enough for use in rain, dull conditions, should always have headlights on when visibility is not at its best!

Highway code Rule 226
You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet).

So, its doesn't matter whether you have the DRLs on, if you think the visibilty is reduced, dipped headlamps it is.

Cheers

Yep, and your not allowed to use side/parking lamps on the motorway (and dual carrageway I think) its got to be headlamp.

Re: Q about Lights and Air Con!

Back to the funny noises...

I jumped out to use the HSBC cash machine beside the Fiat dealers in Carlisle on Sunday and I left the engine running with the Aircon on and there's this funny 'tick' noise ever now and again and yes, it does sound like it's going to stall.

Was a bit worried as you know from tomorrow the 500 is going to a land far far away from any FIAT dealers!

Heard it a few times since but I just thought, bugger it I'll turn the aircon off if it gives me jip while I'm away....

Jim
