Re: Woo Hoo..... 51 MPG to-day

In the last month I have rented two different 1.4 Sport 500's, driven 270 miles and back from devon to Leicestershire and achieved about 50mpg average. Most of the journey was motorway driving so I was very impressed. Both cars were virtually new when I started off so I assume that as the engines loosen up in a couple of thousand miles the average mpg should increase a little.

Re: Woo Hoo..... 51 MPG to-day

The joy of a manual. Mine is now regularly at 65mpg plus at just over 3000 miles. I have the dealer demo home tonight, mine is in for its front spoiler to be fitted. When I picked it up it was on an average of 50mpg. Someone's been driving it like its been stolen!!

Its now at 60 mpg.

Cheers

I'd say he means that it's short shifting. IE Changing up earlier. Short shifting is good for your economy but don't go changing up to 5th and drive around town at 20. That's not so good for your economy

I had an Opel Senator back in the mid 80s. 4 mpg on the trip if it was 'exercised'
