(G) What to do about my order?

Hey everyone!

I have a little bit of a dilemma and I'd appreciate some opinions and advice:

I ordered my 5oo back in early March and was told to expect an early June pick up. It now turns out that the build date for my car isn't until very late June so I probably won't get delivery until early August now.

The question is this...

DO I go ahead with the order I have and get my car in early August with only around 3 weeks on new plates...

OR

DO I cancel and re-order hoping for an early September delivery on 58 plates(with same dealer or another one - [there's a legal argument there for getting my deposit back no matter of FIAT's internal workings])

I really do want the car and like everyone else I want it NOW so don't want to cancel but don't really want to have it depreciate on the day of it leaving the showroom and then 3 weeks later to depreciate again in the plate change and not be "new". Buying a car just before the changeover has never made sense to me unless there is some kind of incentive to reflect the plate change effects.

Is it worth going for some sort of discount from the dealer or for some kind of incentive for keeping my order?

Then again am I being over cautious and petty on the plate change/time of delivery and should I just forget about it and continue?

Any comments are much appreciated!

Keep the order where it is and tell the dealer to hang onto it for three weeks and register on 1st September.

Yes i will keep the order and wait for the first of September! I got in order (3 weeks now) a 500 and should be delivered by the end of July now if it gets here really early i will get it straight away but if the order is delayed i will be in your same situation so I may probably wait!!

buy your own number plate and dont have the silly 08/58 nonsense.

I would tend to agree...sod waiting and get a private reg number, see here for some examples available from £250:

In my opinion you won't lose out too much because of 1 digit on your reg plate after all its still a 2008 . Also my car has turned up approx 2 weeks early so fingers crossed yours might be the same.

I second that. My cherished plate will transfer to my 500 Sport as first registration so none of the 58/08 nonsense.

If you play your plates right, you'll be sitting on a goldmine. My registration was bought in 2005 for £70 and it was valued three months at £1500!! But TBH, I have no intention of selling it as it never crossed my mind.

Really glad I got mine! For £250 it was a bargain! Not only my name but goes well with the fiat campaign !

What ever you do don't get the plate that I'm getting for my Panda. It's got 500 in it, but is only one with my innitials which will go on my age Panda!
