Nearly

Nearly hurt my lil car

I was coming back from brighton just went over a roundabout getting my speed up onto the dual carriage way when there was an abandoned car in my lane no hazards or anything. I did emergency stop i was so close to hitting it i must of stopped an inch away, looked in my mirror and the car behind was so close to me

I rang my mum to warn her because she goes that way home, she already knew about it supponsly there was a robbery in Lewes and the police were chasing them, they abandoned the car there and ran.

Grrr stupid place to on a dual carriageway. Made my heart jump into my stomach

Lucky. Dosen't the 500 have the hazzards flash in the event of an emergency stop? Do you think it helped the driver behind?

This really is a pain, especially if you are "making progress" from corner to corner. The ABS comes on far too soon, and the pesky hazards come on embarrassingly. For a proper "stamp on the brakes emergency" it's fair enough as a warning for those behind you.

Agreed, the 500 is not meant to be a B-road toy, but it's fun to throw around, except for those damn hazards!

Didn't you see this car after all dual carriageways are prety open and straigh?.
Did you not check your mirrors as soon as you entered the new road to assess what was happening behind?

Make sure you look deeper before deciding on acceleration. It seems the situation caught you by suprise and there are no nice suprises when driving.

"It came from nowhere" is the one that insurance and police hear most but stuff doesn't come from nowhere, It is there somewhere it's just somebody didn't see it coming because perhaps they were not expecting it.

May I suggest that your speed, observation, distraction(we) and anticipation played a part in your "nearly". I don't quite get " The see over? the roundabout" bit

I don't really think it's your position to judge a near miss when you wern't even there. And before you say, 'neither were you' - i'll say 'i'm not the one lecturing the girl' over something i didn't see.

I am very qualfied to judge matters of this nature. It is my job. I am trying to help, prevention is always better than the cure. I am not lecturing anyone. The fact is loads of drivers are ksi due to these kind of incidents and anything that can be learned from such incidents, should be.

Re: Nearly

If one can't see over the roundabout then one should proceed with caution.

Don't put you car where you haven't put your eyes half a second earlier, expect the unexpected.

Cheers

No matter how far it is possible to see then the speed of travel should always be such that it is possible to "[comfortably] stop in the distance that can be seen to be clear". In practice that means, the less the distance ahead you can see, the slower you need to drive.

Adi is right, any driver colliding (or nearly colliding) with a stationary object has only themselves to blame.
